Back in the day a young brown belt discovered a link between real world martial arts and success in the Toribash aikido dojos with a Jiu Jitsu move called the scissor sweep. With this move, he was able to befriend members of Team Aikido and eventually coup the organization and lead it into a period of innovative development. Together he and other TA members researched, developed, and wrote an all encompassing resource of skill called the Team Aikido Knowledge Base which cataloged fundamental and advanced moves for any aikido fighter to learn. This is also important because it proved that Toribash could serve as an outlet for martial arts training when life requires you to focus on real responsibilities like college studies. After years of leading the TA organization (now TMA), he stepped down and left to focus on something new.
Unsatisfied with the existing clans out there, footlox wanted to create a clan that would reflect his experiences of real world training in Brazilian jiu jitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, and MMA. So his idea was to spawn a lineage of players who accumulated knowledge and skill that would be passed down from one member to the next just like the real world. And so the Spyder House was born...

Whilst we are primarily playing high-grav mods, we are accepting towards players of all sorts in Toribash. We believe being grounded in reality is the upmost priority of our community. While we encourage our members to compete, the ultimate goal is to develop the skills required to succeed in pursuing real martial arts and/or other career paths. We aim to be your coaches both in Toribash and real life.
"Nothing under the sun is greater than education. By educating one person and sending him into the society of his generation, we make a contribution extending a hundred generations to come." - Jigoro Kano, founder of Judo

1.2. In-Game Names Only. If you're just joining please change it now.
1.3. Respect flows up. Lower ranked students will respect and listen to higher ranked members.
1.4. Knowledge flows down. Higher ranked members will aid, mentor, and moderate the lower ranked students.
1.5. Keep What You Kill. Equally ranked students are encouraged to aggressively compete for their promotion and also settle any disagreements they may have in the octagon. 2. In-Game Conduct
2.1. Poor sportsmanship is discouraged unless the competitor expresses it first.
2.2. Cheesing/Shoveling techniques are discouraged
2.3. Rage-quitting is unacceptable. /set tf (remaining frames) if you have to leave.
2.4. Your Clan Armband // 3D Belt is a symbol of your earned rank and should be treated accordingly:
2.4.A. Wear your current rank's armband/belt at all times.
2.4.B. Do not wear a color you did not earn.
2.4.C. You may edit the armband/belt;however, that the dominant color must be your current rank. 3. Belt Rank Curriculum
3.1. The belt ranking system takes after traditional BJJ ranks (white-blue-purple-brown-black).
3.2. At every rank, students must study and demonstrate pre-requisite techniques (mma-belt-prereq):
3.2.A. Prereqs must be done in live combat unless otherwise stated.
3.2.B. Prereqs must be completed & approved BEFORE doing your belt test.
3.2.C. Prereqs can be approved by any member with a higher belt rank.
3.2.D. Prereqs can by completed by submitting new OR older replays.
3.3. Belt Tests and Prereqs must be submited as video replays in their appropriate channel under their appropriate numberings.
3.3.a. Check replay-recording on how to submit your replays in an easy-to-access viewable format.
3.4. Belt Tests and Prereqs must be completed to the exact specifications for their respective system. 4. Belt Tests (prereqs approved only)
4.1. There are (4) belt test options for a rank promotion:
4.1.A. Win a 2/3 duel against an equal or better rank in MMA, shootboxing, or another rank related mod. (Judging will be rendered by any higher rank. The higher the rank, the more their judgement may supercede over others)
4.1.B. Win 2 matches that contribute to a war victory for your clan.
4.1.C. Win a bout in an official event.
4.1.D. In lieu of options A, B, and C the tester may be directed to post new replays of their development so they may be promoted when deemed appropriate. 5. Skill Development
5.1. You Win Or You Learn. Every loss is an opportunity for improvement if you put effort to correct it.
5.2. Drill-To-Kill. Single player drilling is the fastest way to learn new skills and sharpen old ones.
5.3. Spectators should act as Corner Coaches (CC) to aid their clan mates in live combat at all times
5.4. Above All, Stay Grounded. This is true both metaphorically and physically. Any outward projection of force or ego can be easily reversed against you if you are not grounded, or if you are not true to yourself.
5.5. Cheese will happen. You can choose to communicate and attempt to stop the cheese from happening; but, people will be degenerative players regardless. It is your duty to learn how to navigate and mitigate your way through the cheese as well. Always use your words first if you can.
"In an argument, you may silence your opponent by pressing an advantage of strength or of wealth, or of education. But you do not really convince him. Though he is no longer saying anything, in his heart he still keeps to his opinion, the only way to make him change that opinion is to speak quietly and reasonably. When he understands that you are not trying to defeat him, but only to find the truth, he will listen to you and perhaps accept what you tell him."
- Jigoro Kano
6. Character Development
6.1. If Spyder House is open to everyone, then it is inherently open to their ideas as well. No matter how under-educated or inappropriate an idea may be, it can be expressed freely without the fear of language censorship. This way, just like in-real-life, the idea can change as it is tested through public discourse.
6.2. Equally, ideas may be challenged without fear of censorship. It should be understood that if an idea is to be taken seriously, it should be communicated with sound logic and politeness.
6.2a. If you believe an idea will be an exception to this rule, that should say enough to you on whether you would express it or not.
6.3. Arguments are inevitable. If an unstable dialogue escalates then the parties involved will be moved to the-pit , a temporary channel to communicate and find the central truth without distractions from others.
6.3a. The pit will also be used for any and all disciplinary actions/conversations.
6.4. As a result of the above, the only enforced rules that are ban-worthy if infracted are as follows:
6.4.a. Don't spam.
6.4.b. Don't lie.
6.4.c. Do not make any serious threats of violence in the context of real life.
6.4.d. Do not use intentionally hateful and/or discriminatory language.
6.5. We are all here to learn from one-another. Debate is encouraged, but all voices deserve a platform here.
