Icky Thump was raw (as in, unpolished and ugly and vomited on), and Meg White's drumming once you hear it out of context also sounds like complete shit.
The White Stripes may have the most high-tech equipment in the business, but their music sounds like they just urinate on it and hope for the best during recording sessions.
And I wouldn't say Sonic Youth is that better, either. Playing every instrument out of tune =/=good.

They may puke on their instruments but I don't hear it. You may hear it, I don't Okay.
Playing like shit doesn't mean you sound raw.
Raw sound is a mix of the playing, mixing and the equipment.
I quess White Stripes studio equipment is too Hitech for them as their live performances sound so much better. I have to adjust my views as I hadn't heard any Live White Stripes before. But on record they still sound Bad.
