-ive already tried to refresh filters
-and tried restarting gimp many times

oh, thnx viris

EDIT: 'nother problem

whenever i do the color to alpha it works fine

but when i try to open the pic i colored to alpha and layer it on another pic, it jus turns black, instead of what i wanted it to look like

To keep transparency, use a format that supports it, like .png or .gif. When saving in .png, you won't get any loss, but .gif supports fewer colors. Remember to allow transparency and keep a transparent layer at the bottom. If you can't do it, send me a .xcf file of the work in progress.
Actually, save it directly to .tga. TGA supports transparency, and you can put it on your test rangdoll on toribash to see how does it look.
Its a lot more easier that way.

Also, the color to apha filter can be found at the Image or Layer drop down box.
It is on the drop box or whatever beside transparency.
