For a terrain, if you want an image map with no stretching, it's easy as hell. Just select everything in editmode and press U and select unwrap. Seams and stuff shouldn't be required as it will simply try to flatten everything out evenly onto an image.


you could also try different projection methods, in c4d theres a projection method called cubic, great for tiling textures, doesn't stretch the textures for things like terrain etc
