Anyone else tried messing around with subpixel rendering? Basically it takes advantage of the RGB subpixels in an LCD monitor to create detail smaller than a pixel and to achieve a smoother edge. The downside, is that it exploits the characteristics of the colour and thus looks like shit if you do anything other than grayscale. Heres an alien I drew with the technique.

first image looks like it has bleeding colors. I guess it takes advantage of antialiasing. could have used a better image comparison

it sorta kills the idea of pixel art since in pixel art its not AA

Interesting War, but I don't see what this should be good for :/
You just accuire a smoother look (yes I see a littel difference at the nose and the left part of the mouth) and don't get more detail in a picture.

Besides, isn't it, due to the pixels division, only usefull for nearly vertical line borders? Here the nose lines for example.

Alright, I should have explained this better. THIS ONLY WORKS ON LCD, also it doesn't do anything for horizontal or vertical lines. It is only for slanted lines and curves.

I say that this is completely in the spirit of pixel as I placed every pixel manually

doesnt look like lines, just looks like random spots of colour to me >_>
