Society vs Intelligent people ("geeks", "nerds", "dorks" and so on)
With this topic, I would like to ask you all about your views on how the society deals with intelligent people... Why intelligent people get ridiculed while celebrities, mostly bad role-models and idiot as fuck, get most of the attention and everybody thinks they're the epitomy of "cool" and nice examples to follow.

Seriously. Express your views... Specially about how we despise intelligence in women, and how they're never portrayed as intelligent/intellectual individuals on TV, at least not without making mockery out of them: the stereotype pretty common on mainstream media of a dork with glasses that is too ugly to be good at stuff other than general culture.

I hate when people measure intelligence by grades, and half the people cheat on homework and test. Then the teachers believe we're not challenged and then and the cycle repeats. I've met straight A students who had no clue who Winston Churchill or Stalin was.

Indeed. But what you are talking about there is knowledge, not intelligence. Knowing when that war was and who that guy is isn't intelligence, it's knowledge. Intelligence is thinking, seeing consequences, how things work before it's done.

And the people at school who get A's in math; 80% of them are idiots through and through. You have to remember sentences of what you are to do when faced with a problem. I remember in the tenth grade, when I hadn't been paying attention to the sentences at all. Nearly all my answers were correct on a test, but I got a C because I was "Too creative" and "You're not supposed to know that before the twelfth grade". So, my calculations were named wrong because I thought.

This is what annoys me with people who think "Oh, I'm smart" when they get A and B in school subjects. Intelligence cannot be measured. IQ is a theory, and no more.

Who is Winston Churchill?

No, just kidding. I completely agree with you. There are some straight-A students with serious gaps in their education.

When you search "scientist", in Google images, this is one of the first things that comes up:

In my opinion, people make these generalizations because of the media, i.e., TV sitcoms, other TV shows, and even the Internet. For example, this Youtube video:

I also find the old show "Jimmy Neutron" to be a blame as well.
"The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane." -Nikola Tesla
Eh,i think i have the answer. For some unknown reason, the mentally incapable (popular people) somehow have the upper hand socially. This is true all throughout history.

Humans are idiots. That'd sum up why people idolize celebrities in a nutshell.

Looking at it in more detail, when given the choice to be attractive or intelligent, most people would pick attractiveness because the desire to have sex with hot people rates much higher for more people than being able to get a job that requires a university degree. Why? Sex is hard-wired into people's minds as a basic instinct for survival. Kinda like how a male lion will have sex with every female lion in a herd; it's so that their genes get passed on to as many others as possible.

Also, it's a lot easier to do something stupid and get rich off it than to do something amazingly beneficial for mankind and get rich off it while young.

Not everyone thinks about sex all the time, in fact, most people I know don't think about it all.
Sex being the goal in all interaction between men and women is complete, utter bullcrap. Most people that think like that are people with very basic lines of thought that are not capable of understanding another human being and that human being's needs and preferences. I think it's very stupid to be that, well, shallow. (Makes me sound like a woman :V)

You people are talking about sex like it's eating; needed for survival and part of the working day. Sex isn't supposed to be something done to pass on genes to as many people as possible, like it is with animals. Humans are meant to choose one or two people out of a 'herd' and then keep those as partners, it has always been like that since the dawn of time. It's supposed to be a special thing between two people. Why else do you think people still call women whores when they have sex with a lot of men?

Actually, everyone thinks about sex - it's just that they repress the thoughts.

Well a human has an "emotional" side (want to have power, want for sex, want to live, capacity to love, etc., the stuff that comes from instinct) and a more rational side (contains the idea of morals, logical thinking, etc. comes from experience in life) and the two sides are very commonly in direct opposition of each other. In the case of 'why date women' the urge to have sex, or in some rarer cases, love, is the drive - it's just that the rational side suppresses these thoughts, and gives new, variably "true", meaning to a relationship. However, most of the time the instinct side prevails, it's just that most people won't admit it because the rational side suppresses the thoughts to that extent.

You're quite the talker, I want evidence of this, because the idea that males/females should choose only one other partner is not self-evidently natural. In fact, I believe it's quite the contrary, let me give you some evidence for my case. You do know that tribal cultures, such as certain African ones, had leaders which had more than five wives? There have been many examples of it - just use Google - the conclusion here is that the emotional/instinctive/natural side of humans most likely prefers to have as much sex as possible. In western cultures there is a certain moral which says that one should only have one wife - however this is artificially created (don't know why this idea came to be honest... interesting subject) by man, and hardly natural to our instincts (case in point; tribal cultures with men having many wives).
tl;dr: deprived is spergin'
