Because when I logged on the graphics were all set to maxxed out and i'm on a laptop, I explained to them that I couldn't change my graphics settings ingame but they just raged.

I said that wrong, it being my first game since the start of open beta had no idea what to do, I asked them if I could and they said no.

You really should do your research before you play.
I read guides and things when I can. Especially, if a hero interests me.
And yeah, HoN is pretty "highend" with max settings for a dota game.
