Secret Santa 2024
Original Post
New player. Mixed feelings.
I checked out Toribash when it was pay-to-play so I thought it was interesting but not worth the scratch.

Now its free and I'm having a blast. Everything seems wonderful. Its not the best piece of software ever written, but I can't really ask for much more than this game's mere existence.

There is one extremely offsetting hangup in the entire discourse of this game: No private servers.

Not allowing me and my friend to set up a training dojo where just him and I can practice our openers, and fighting style in general, is I don't know a ridiculously peeving restriction to have! I read on the forums that there used to be private servers too! When the game was pay-to-play! If anyone, specifically the creators of this game can explain to me why, now that the game is /FREE/ you're forcing me to reverse engineer your server's protocol just so I can play with a few friends on a server exactly with the settings I like, well then the only wrong thing with this entire game would be out of my mind.

Cheers, this really is a great game, good work all around.

yes i can agree with you on this one, but i think that they just took private servers out because of the toricredies system they have now, i mean if you have a private server you can just set it to were you win in like 100 frames. and that just would be far to other people. along with the belt system, that would do the same thing for gettin your belt up....

A man of few words
But I'm sure it's occurred to the mods that they can do private servers outside of the toricredit market. I'm also curious why they took private servers out.

yes that true, but they would probably have to re-write some code and make some changes to thing and it would just be too time consuming for them... but only hampa and his team know lol

I'm sure that if you succeed in making a clan, or join a clan, and get the password for it, they would allow you to do it.
Lots of rewritten code or something for TB 3. Also, I don't imagine, if your skilled enough with networking, it should be too difficult to build your own homebrew server. But I'm not sure that would be quite allowed unless Nabi comes out and says 'yeah, we'll give private servers back'.
Q = QUAKER OATS
Three rules of Q - 1. Qegola and Quarantine both start with Q. 2. There is no U in Qegola. 3. Qegola is you new god.

So a man walks into a bar with a monkey. I forgot the rest of the joke but your mom is a whore.
Okay first off, telling me that taking out functionality, specifically ToriCredit from a private server build is too time consuming is a joke. If you can't delete code and do a few debugging sessions in a night then.....

Secondly, I'm more than capable of investigating the possibility of a homebrew private server. I've reverse engineered many multiplayer games and contributed to two major projects duplicating servers. Its a job of patience, and unless they're already designing/implementing measures against this, its not too much of a techinical one. And if they are, wtf mates, just release a private server.

To come in and say you're building a private server is fine and all, we don't really care. We play on the game settings given, and if you're respected enough, you'll be able to make your own anyway.

However, demanding that the guys at Nabi make something because YOU want it, and because 'its probably piss easy' is not gonna get you very far. Nabi most likely recalled the idea of a private server for other reasons, and its their own damn choice if they release a new build.

Now stop being so arrogant and learn more about the game and community before you start making such stupid requests in such a stupid fashion.

Reading my own posts I sound like I'm comming off aggressive and threatening. I don't know why, I didn't mean to.

I just think the community needs private servers. Look at all the threads of the original players complaining about this issue and having to play with countless newbies.
I have a feelingt that one of the reasons is that toribash was made free....and also that it requires a lot more coding to get it to work, where in previous versions, they only needed to do small changes.....
<Shlimby> lol, no Ad, just stop seeing those melons
