I highly disagree with the emboldened statement. SP is one of the key features in Toribash. It is actually regarded more highly in skill than MP. The reason for this is MP's unpredictability. It is hard to know what your opponent is doing, so it is really just a guessing game. Take Wushu, for example. Both opponents start their own openers at the exact same time, so it is impossible for you to anticipate/counter their moves (unless of course they're noobs that use the same opener, like me
).
Now look at SP. You have to control 20 different joints in exactly the right way to produce the move you want. You have to take into account accuracy in hitting the joints, the angles at which you hit them, and the force you are exerting. Also, since relaxed joints are harder to break, after you dm once, Uke's body goes all relaxed, making it harder to break him. After all that, you have to fine tune the replay so that it looks realistic and smooth.
Let's compare both MP and SP now. MP is a largely luck-based, unrealistic feature. SP is a complex, single frame adjusting challenge, where you actually have to
follow rules of physics (I'm thinking of you, Wushu). Now do you see where I'm coming from?
As a final note, how do you think NutHug, Mosier, Nightin, Nirs, Chezda, Melmoth, etc. became famous? I can tell it wasn't because they were good at MP (NutHug was actually known to be a
terrible MP player). They all became famous because they spent hours upon hours perfecting eye-dazzling replays that made your jaw drop.
Eh, sorry about the long reply, that statement really set me off because I am an avid SP player.
