There is every reason to assume there is life.

We KNOW that there is life besides us in the universal, I think not too long ago we discovered life on one of Saturn's or Jupiter's moons, the problem is that the universe is so big that there is no way of definitely knowing that there are other forms intelligent life out there (yet) and it's foolish to claim that there is definitely intelligent life with out any way to demonstrate it.
