Piracy? (Serious Discussion)
Well, Piracy is the use of a program that you have not paid for, where you should have. It's the theft of programs, music, or other things that people have created and copyrighted. What is so wrong with piracy? What do you think about people who sue others for copyright infringement, when they already have made millions of dollars on the product? I think when a music industry sues someone for copyright infringement, it's just pure greed. They probably already have made millions on the song, and will continue to make money on them.

What again do you guys think about it?

NOTE: This isn't a discussion about how you like to abuse piracy, if you like to abuse piracy, or how to commit malicious acts of piracy. This is for serious discussion of the matter.

Well in my opinion they should (and do) have the right to sue, whether its "right" to sue and having the right are two different things. But even if they have made millions, why would some people have to pay and others not?

Some people will pirate while other who are computer illiterate, or happy followers of the law, may end up paying the charge for it maybe on iTunes or even a CD.

Funnily enough this is actually a really important point, as long as they can be cracked then people will continue to pirate as long as there are no other incentives to purchasing a product legally. Things like Valve's TF2 updates are a good example of this, the continued support of their products means that people will miss out on more from pirating, minimizing losses. Wheras the alternative of this is trying to create an 'uncrackable' DRM, the chances of this even being possible are absurdly low and even if it is possible then the costs of producing such a thing would be enormous.

Morally speaking however, pirating and later purchasing something is perfectly fine, however when you get into pirating something and not buying it because you feel it isn't worth your money then things get complicated, seeing as one dollar is worth more to some than others and how much you value entertainment could prevent somebody from buying something, but is that person's opinion the baseline of value and should they not be paid because of it? Finally pirating something, thinking it is worth your money and then not paying for it is wrong without a doubt.
Well i don't claim to have never pirated, and i don't think its something to really be a concern to the law. But i don't think its right just because some people know how and others don't.

But I don't think people should get sued over it either, as they still made huge profit on the music if it's worthwhile for anyone to pirate.

Pirating music is basically going to a store and stealing the CD.

Personally, I would never physically steal a cd, but I pirate music anyways.

The reason I pirate is because its safe and easy to do.

I don't steal because its not a smart thing to do, I could be arrested.

Above is the standard mind-set of most of the people that pirate music/games/other software.

Stealing online is too easy, that's why people do it. Also when it comes to games, if the game costs 60$ a lot of people won't afford/won't buy it anyway and instead just decide to torrent it. Companies add this to their 'losses' when even if they didn't torrent it, they wouldn't have bought it.

Well, technically it's stealing.

Legally, they are correct. When it's an outrageous amount then yeah, it's greedy. Like when the RIAA and some record companies sued Limewire for something like 75 Trillion dollars, that was ridiculous. As long as the amount is within reason then of course it's alright.

It's not like the pirates don't know it's wrong. It's that they don't think that they'll get caught, which for the most part is true.

I saw that someone posted a good article about piracy on these forums at one point, I'll see if I can find it.

I'm pro to the piracy in the 99% of the case.If the price is too high,so for me is totally ok to steal the product
Same for the "real" theft:if the price are too high i have no problems in stealing
I have no moral problems in this case...the oppost:i think it's ok to steal to thiefs
