The text is pretty bad, the color doesn't match at all with the picture and the background, I'd advise downloading new fonts.
The image you used isn't that great either, it's in a generic standing pose. Most people would want something with a little more 'spark' to set it aside from others work.
The white transparent lens flare on the very end doesn't look well either, it could've been positioned better.

good for beginner work.
what am i doing here
DaFont.com <---
Here is a link where you can get tons of fonts, almost any font you can think of is in there, you just have to find it.

There go some tutorials for GIMP since I'm positive that's what you're using, and if I'm wrong, here go some tutorials for photoshop

and, I'm going to be honest with you, even for a beginner, this is horrible GFX work...
All you did was put a render on a blank canvas, add a background, and some brushes on the background, added your name, and hoped for the best... that isn't GFX my friend, just practice and actually take time out to think about what you're doing and how you're doing it please. 1/10
I bought a subscription to Wibbles so I think this quote is necessary,
"Be careful when gazing into the void, for it gazes back"
lol ok thanks for the tuts...(GIMP ftw)

is this any better? that tutorial was kinda confusing...

First one needs antialias/background blur, both need smoother edges of the clipped characters. Also, high-contrast would give a nice look. High contrast makes almost anything look good.
Good for begginer, at the second onelook at the halo guy. its white around him, fix it.
anyway, 8/10
For begginer.

EDIT: Just found a black dot on his visor should be fixed etc.
The Halo signature isn't that good, the main thing that turned me off was the black background, it should be filled more. And has B45 said you should fix the black dot on the visor.
