The Human Brain
The brain myth stating we only use %10 of our brains
True or false?
If false, what would we be capable of if we could use all of our brains?
Discuss and be sure to state your opinions on the matter.

Actualy there have been some discovery that we can use up to 70% of it. However that's only when we're in a deep sleep.

I've read that the most a brain has been active is %16 by albert einstein(shocker)
True.
Have you ever heard of lucid dreaming?
It is a true evidence that our brain is a machine.
Lucid dreaming is being aware of being in a dream. While in that dream, you can control anything you want. You can fly, build stuff, summon people/objects, fight... etc. ANYTHING.
That is because our brain is working much better, having so much will power that it is able to do that stuff inside your dreams.
In dreams, your brain creates and procedes the dream simultaniously, and it does it so well you don't even know it's happening, that's how powerful it is.
oh yeah

Yup, this is probably the best way to sum it up. Or Déjà vu? Definition of Déjà vu is seeing something happen, when you've seen it before in a dream or something. But I heard somewhere that a better explanation for that feeling is that your brain process an event twice, at almost the same moment, to an extent at which we don't even know is happening. We feel that we've seen this already, when in fact, the brain has just processed 1 thing, 2 times at a very fast pace.

Trust me.

No shit, controlling your heart rate would be sketchy. Especially when your heart beats around 72 times a minute, that would be a bitch to keep track of.

This is extremely stupid. You use ONE-HUNDRED percent of your brain. You only use 10 percent at ONCE. If you used all 100% of your brain AT ONCE you'd start releasing chemicals you don't need to and feel pain for no reason and feel hungry and satisfied at the same time. It'd be a mad clusterfuck of bodily operation.

Ditto.

Why in what instance would you need to use the part of your brain that knows how to peel a banana and the part that you need to find square roots and the part that knows how to vomit, simultaneously? The portions of the brain that's coordinating everything can't take all that in. Brain bottlenecked!

You can't control your medulla, that part of the brain doesn't work like that.

You don't want it to be anything but automatic, either. Alcohol affecting your medula is what kills you if you drink too much.

@other people not understanding the brain: you use considerably more than 10% of it at a time. You are almost constantly using your medulla oblangata, cerebellum, and other parts associated with basic bodily functions and relaying information from the nervous system, your thalamus, hypothalamus, and hippocampus, for memories, every part of the neocortex required for sensory information, etc. etc. etc.

And finally @JayStar: your heartbeat speed is variable and also dependent on the person and his respiratory system. It is not in any locked on 72 or in that region. When you exercise it regularly skyrockets, up into the 200's for professional athletes.

@Acavado: who wouldn't want to peel a banana, vomit, and solve square root equations at the same time? Efficiency for a normal afternoon would be hugely increased. Actually, the part of your brain that controls, say, vomiting, is constantly working anyways, and it's the same part that controls movement too, since it includes the cerebellum.

Learning to browse the internet for this sort of information is hugely liberating.

Really, these debilitating conundrums were solved by google (well, they could've been found on google, a biology course is helpful too).

Hey look more than two lines.
the 10% myth is false (read the "metabolic studies" part of Radi0 post)
but
i believe we have more potential/power in our brain than we know.
for what i've read, with meditation you can "light" your brain

let me explain a little better what i think.
you are using 100% of the brain but every % is for each function/though/action you do

but if you clear your mind some of those % would get free and would make you able to use them to "power up" a certain function you want, making it easier to perform
