Toribash

Is TORIBASH an E-Sports Worthy Game?
I'm involved with E-Sports. I play games like SC2, LoL, CS 1.6, all of them.
I think this game has potential to be an e-sports worthy game. Toribash is VERY complex and respectable in my opinion. The "Starcraft" of Fighting Games. The game requires the use of hotkeys, memory of inputs to execute proper moves and the game is exciting to watch (especially when a Toribash player pulls of a sick attack or counter).

Do you think Toribash is E-Sports worthy? If so, what can we do to show this game to more people? LoL was free to play and erupted! 5 million people playing it or something like that.

I would have to say no. Toribash's physics engine seems to affect tori and uke differently. This would definitely disqualify it as a e-sports worthy game. You know, it's not a balanced/even game.

I had no idea about the physics engine problem. Do you think the developers would make a version for competition purposes? I forget why Toribash is not a balanced/even game. Isn't it involved with buying upgrades?

Like I said, the physics engine affects the players differently. That's what makes it uneven. Toribash doesn't have any in-game items that affects gameplay.

The differences are near negligible, you don't see people winning because they are either tori or uke... Ever. There are clear differences in skill levels, if you are better than someone else and you're playing a mod that isn't a gimmick, the chances are very good that you will beat them.

The only thing is that it would never really be all that exciting to someone who doesn't understand what is going on, so it probably will never take off.

Same with Starcraft, the game needs commentators to explain the game and entertain novice players. I commentated some great matches when my friends were watching the game for the 1st time. It was hype as hell when the players did sick moves. The countdown moments are great for analysis of the match.

This is probably (speculation) more to do with inaccuracies in FP than some balancing issue, oh and hampa's fuckmeintheass custom patches of the open source physics engine he rammed into toribash, which by the way are slowing the game down a great deal
Either way the difference is negligible.

Toribash lacks any original thought since conception (that is, the idea of a joints and forces based fighting game with a strong 3D physics engine is about as far as it goes), this makes it perfect for e-sports, which all, also lack any originally at all.

You can take any game and build a sentence so that it sounds lame. What makes a game original other than it's gameplay,or storyline?Graphics don't matter in this discussion ofcourse. So,toribash lacks any additional originality since it's start?I'm not sure if I understand you well, but there are platforms like street fighter, tekken that haven't changed their gameplay since their beginning, and most people still enjoy it.There are definite things you can do in specific genres for example fighting games.I believe toribash took the fighting games genre to the extreme. You can control everything, and I don't know what could be added to toribash to make it more creative(since I think you're whining). In conclusion,if you don't like the genre, don't complain, some of us do enjoy it.Though, for rpg games, and the people who fancy such stuff, sure there a lot of stuff that can be made to indulge yourself in.Also not all,ea-sports games lack originality, but fine generalize.
the difference is just to negate two people doing the same opening move, and as strangelove said it really doesn't affect competitive play.
As for it being uninteresting to watch, so is starcraft to me imo, the only reason it can have a competitive metagame is because there are so many wannabe pro starcraft players that are willing to support the 'pros'. If enough people validate a skill it becomes a skill, sine toribash has a tiny metagame in comparison, there isn't enough following to support 'pro players'.

the game has too many bugs and its random and hard for new players, too hard.

A person to play this game decently needs 1 month

And again, too random even thought you have control since you dont have 100% control.
