lol nice . Work on them in 512x512, you can do more detail so when you get the 512 texture ( not sure if you have it already ) it will look good.

Theres a good way to get that tron neon light style of suit and pretty simple too . Heres the photoshop tutorial . It show you how to make a realistic neon sign but you can see how you could incorperate this on a texture.

As for the gimp tutorial , I expect it to be the same pretty much . If not then just google "Gimp neon sign " or somthing.
