Have you explored the world of fanfiction? There are some truly epic fanfics out there, especially for the more popular anime/manga like Death Note. Though I haven't been in the fandom long enough to recommend anything.

Oh, I agree Death Note is still awesome, but I've been more into the Suzumiya scene lately.
