Well I'll try to practise to make avvies by ps.

I recommend you ps since I've used both and ps is probably better. Gimp is easier to use and for some stuff is kinda complicated. On the other hand ps can look harder at first but once you know what does each thing its a powerful program.

And dont worry about that new clan, seems like fallen is a typical name ( lack of creativity )

none of them is better than the other. Well, ps has some tool that gimp doesn't and vice versa. And I agree with pch. Both software are easy to use. You just need to know what a tool can do. (there are many tutorials for both of them). So, I think you have to try them both and decide yourself.
