If you're going to be showing after effects stuff will there be ways to imitate them in vegas or?

There are ways to imitate some of the effects in vegas, but I'm not sure how easy it is to do them in sv. I never tried sony vegas, but the more popular plugins for toribash video making are available for both programs. Twixtor for time remapping and Magic Bullet Looks for Color correction. You can do CC without using magic bullet looks, there are plenty of ways to do it in ae, but I'm not sure about sv. Doing a quick search, I found some editors that create tutorials for sony vegas.

@Dengue: We will try to do one some time around monday if we can get enough time to sit down for an hour.

@Tyzi: I'm pretty sure vegas can do everything ae can except particle effects and fancy stuff like that. But as far as editing goes, it's up there. I think it can do color correction as well.

I personally found GIMP quite hard to work with so Jusmi's tut should be interesting.
