Once you buy an item from the torishop, or another player sends you an item, its goes to your Deactivated Inventory, which can be found here: http://forum.toribash.com/tori_inventory.php

Find the item you want and click activate next to it. Once you activate it it will go to your Activated Inventory, which can be found here: http://forum.toribash.com/tori_inventory.php?sid=-1

To take off an item simply just deactivate it.
