You shouldn't use 12gb of RAM either, most mobos have 4 slots which means you should use 4/8/16/32gb of RAM. The more the better, so it depends on your budget.

6th gen Core i7s are coming out this year so if you chill you can get something much better than you otherwise would be able to get. At the moment it looks like 2h this year, perhaps 3q even.

Finally the titan z is outperformed by the x, and generally the x is cheaper too. I really wouldn't recommend the z!

How much money are you looking to spend? Looks like you have a lot to throw around.

For SSD you want to fit your OS on it at least, but if you want to fit other things on it then it needs to be bigger obviously, 1TB SSDs run around $400 so they are quite affordable in a high end build.
The two current best case designers IMO are fractal and Lian Li.

Usually a mobo has 4 RAM slots (some have more) and you want to evenly fill them. So you either have 1gb sticks so 4 total, or 2gb sticks so 8 total, or 4gb sticks so 16 total or 8gb sticks so 32 total. Depending on the motherboard you can have over 128gb of RAM. DDR4 comes in up to 32gb sticks at the moment, so if you have a x99 motherboard then you can have 128gb of RAM if it supports that much. But I'm not sure that any consumer motherboards do, but some do have 8 slots so you can put 8x16gb=128gb in it if you want.

Computers start at $100 and there's no limit to price. If you wanted to spend a million dollars you could, so naming the top component is harder than you think since it needs to be reasonably priced

A lot of stuff is subjective like that Fractal case, any of their models will do so just pick whatever looks good :P

memory cubes? I've not heard anything from the consortium in a while, but samsung make 3d nand which is 'similar'. Performance in 3d nand is top quality

Wat rice?
rice is still like LEDs that look 'cool' (if you like the look of them) but don't do anything. Some people like rice, others don't. I don't personally, my machine is 100% antirice... otaku keyboard, crt monitor, 20 year old case, etc

the 980 have seen some days, and therefore may be slightly more stable.
when it comes to benchmarkings, i'm not sure how much more powerful the titan is.
