So do you think, if you are reading an old book with the N word aloud to the class, should you read it out or replace it?

Better to just read it. It's someone esle's opinion, not your's so you shouldn't worry about being 'racist' because you're not. Plus; without that word the piece you're reading could lose its meaning or purpose, whether that be racist or not.
