Yes, obviously, white people can be offended by the word. What I'm questioning is whether the offence they take is justifiable. White people can never be targeted by the word the same way black people can. White people don't have the heritage that makes the word offensive to them in the first place. White people that get offended by the word are co-opting the outrage, because they feel guilty. This white guilt feeds into my point about the 'gotcha' mentality.

The second a white person uses the word, even when they're clearly not using it to direct hate at black people, everyone instantly jumps down their throats (I'm sure we've all seen this often in IRC/ingame and often in the media). We're sooo quick to try to destroy people for speaking like normal. That's what I mean when I say 'gotcha' - it's this hyper politically correct/SJW mentality that's powered by co-opted outrage and white guilt.
