So... looking at a few games with toxic communities (LoL as an example) I feel there have been so many threats to report "x" person because of something they said. Some of these are reasonable but most of them are just from people that lack the skin to enter the domain we call "the internet". What do you think is the line between skin growing and insults?

its all a matter of perspective, someone who is a retard like an actual one with mental disabilities or if someone has a family member that is retarded they will feel very offended to that particular insult. we all have an insult or two that we are sensitive to. there is no "line" just what you yourself feel most offended by based on personal ideals or relations.

no single insult can be so horrible to actually warrant a report, but if the person continues on and on and on then it is flaming, and that is report worthy.

In my opinion, insults shouldn't matter unless they are directly stated in person. And if insults are distributed in another way, say via Facebook, then it would only be necessary to be offended if the person offending you is someone that you see in your day to day life (take school per example).

Insults on online games or on the internet in general aren't out of the ordinary whatsoever, but most people don't acknowledge that it's just banter and not actually meant to offend. Even if it isn't banter then it doesn't really matter anyway since there's nothing either of you can do to one another behind the screens of your computers.

The extraneous variables and experiences in one's life will determine how hardened they are to insults. Past experiences with 'bullying' may make someone feel completely numb to aggressive confrontations, or it might do the exact opposite.

"Growing skin" isn't as easy as you might think. For someone traumatized, or with anxiety, they would need to seek psychological help to deal with it. Generally, people who access the internet should be aware of the precautions.

However, you specified users on LoL, and these users are mostly kids who feel like they can win a heated argument with the 'report threat'. It's more a case of lacking sophistication, or maturity.

People who aren't capable of controlling their emotions should not be on the internet without extensive supervision. It isn't everyone else's responsibility to make sure that they're comfortable or welcomed.

If you suggest the opposite, I can show you why you don't actually believe that too. By forcing people to be tolerant of certain people or behave in a certain way, you're being intolerant towards them. Therefore, any semblance of tolerance is lost, and you now have a community that's tailored specifically to certain people. It's why safe zones don't work. People make other people feel uncomfortable in various ways. Everyone does it. Someone out there was probably made uncomfortable and heavily offended by your suggestion that they lacked sophistication/maturity. Would you rather you be unable to say that to make them comfortable or can they just go fuck themselves?

It is ludicrous to expect people to consider whether or not there will be an offended person for everything they say, and you cannot give people the ability to dictate discussions by feeling offended, because doing so would be fucking stupid.

The other side of this is some people are just vindictive cunts. If someone specific is a target of vindictive cuntyness, then it is right to step in.
