Since Pangea broke and the world was divided into continents. People in different parts of the world developed different hues.

White cops have shot far too many black people. Look it up.

You obviously do not understand political cartoons and or satire.

Its backwards because you are calling me a racist. Yes, I do believe that everyone is a little racist. But to try and flame me because I am attempting to make a point about something I feel to be wrong is just sort of backwards imo.

White people are people.

Look, I understand that you have pure intentions here. But the fact is you are missing the point. I am offended by this, because it is wrong.

The type of outlook you are suggesting is naive.

If the cartoonist had meant for this to be seen the way you are suggesting, he could have taken steps to be sure it was not misinterpreted. He could have put a sign around the monkeys neck that said "congress: or he could have given one of the officers are bit of shade (but oh noes! that would be racist to acknowledge that there are black people!).

EDIT: I will no longer give you the time it takes to separately quote your response. Just a heads up.

I'm not missing the point. In fact, I understand it completely. The prestigious symbols of white people killing the insulting symbol of a black man, showing dominance and supremacy by means of violence, as it had been done so many times in the past. The whites being represented by strong, trustworthy police, the black man being represented by a stupid, ignorant monkey.

I understand your point.

Did the author mean it like that though? Even if he didn't he would have to be pretty stupid to not realise that alot of people would see it as being rasicst. Pretty fucked up.

And that's really why it has been viewed in such a negative way. Mistakes DO happen, but to say that the cartoonist, the editor, and who ever else may have had to sign off on this before it was printed just "messed up" or "didn't know" I a pretty lame excuse.

As an update, it seems Al Sharpton wants to get the government involved. As much as the cartoon is stupid and disgusting, I am probably going to sound like a hypocrite and say that the government should be left out of this all together.

It is not in any way hypocritical to be offended by something like this and retain your belief in free speech.

Nope. (Seriously.)

The concept of free speech is to avoid anyone being put behind bars for stated words, but that doesn't mean nobody are allowed to hone the right to feel offended by anything being said.

Sure, most things are jokeable subjects, and I'm sure you could even make holocaust look funny if you did it right. However, these guys did not make it right, so they ended up with an unfunny one-window that some people happened to feel butthurt about. That's what one would call an unhealthy combination.

@chac, I see your point, but also at the same time if that is true the people at the post should have had the foresight to see that this would be taken the wrong way. When you are a part of the media, there is supposed to be a certain amount of dignity and responsibility to the things you do.

imo it was either a direct racist statement, or just a ploy to get attention. Honestly I would probably respect the racism more than the attention whoring.

Good good. Okay, I understand our country's history with racism quite well, and I also understand that people are way to paranoid about it. Every little thing is taken as racist. Monkeys are symbols for more than just black people, they can also just represent stupid people. And it is common practice in political cartoons to use one figure to symbolize a group of people. And also, the American public immediately attacked the bill, hence the shooting.
