I'm using a version of blender called "blender-ultra 2" and it has a demolition modifier to be placed below a softbody modifier in the modifier stack. It also has amazing new shading features which can substitute the messy radiosity feature:



Note how the texture actually affects where the photons bounce. This is really new but really awesome, and isn't static like radiosity.
