fact of the day: the clan system redesign of 2018(?) is one of the most retarded design choices (if we can even call it that) made by the toribash staff in the past decade.
instead of celebrating the official clans that were the backbone of this community for far too many years, all this new system does is hide away their history if they fail to meet a [time period] activity quota. who cares if your clan and its members were doing something special throughout the entire 2010's when the game mattered -- if you're not posting NOW that the game and community are dead, fuck you.
allegedly, one of the things that motivated this redesign is that the clan discussion and official clans pages were "too cluttered" -- which is obviously a web design fault, possibly a vbulletin limitation (and one that clearly wasn't addressed in the website's UI redesign, but could it have been?). ironically though, it's never been so easy to make your brand new clan get official status, because it's all about quantity over quality now. and quantity over quality is also how we keep this board intact, if we weren't spamming a lot of random bullshit here, the clan would've been killed years ago.
of course, the other crucial reason for the "redesign" of the clan system is a desperate, failed attempt to increase forum and game activity in a dead community and dead game.
the staff members who spearheaded these changes could've admitted that it was a dumbass move and just leave official clans alone, but they must hold on to their egos and look undefeated to the ignorant, unwashed playerbase -- what the fuck do they know anyway!
while the people that opposed this new system back when it was implemented have been called "entitled" for wishing to preserve their fun memories, and this post itself is quite entitled and whiny, the fact of the matter is that there was no point to this redesign
at all. nobody gained anything of value, not the staff, not the players, not the game, no one. it's forced engagement for no reason
