Shootboxing 15 - The Arcade MMA Mod We Need, Improved!
shootboxing15.tbm (/dl in-game today!)
Original Concept by Sushiroll ------
Remade by footlox ------
Dojo Design by mainland
What's New?
- Blue mat.
- Smaller hands for better grappling and precision striking.
- Round biceps instead of square.
- Smaller elbows for realistic proportions and better pummeling.
- Left and right legs now have a 5 degree rotation away from the centerline to improve mobility and range of motion.
- Bodies that DQ on the mat will glow bright red.
- Rebalanced Points System:
Head = 30100, Body = 10001 (Chest body, Stomach body, Lumbar joint, Abs joint, Left Thigh, Right Thigh)
This allows you to track the number of body and head strikes counted.
(Ex: A score of 100204 means there were 2 head strikes and 4 body strikes scored).
What is Shootboxing?
Shootboxing is a fast and dirty MMA mod designed to introduce high gravity realism combat to new players while also be engagingly competitive for MMA veterans.
The mod's unique Game Rules and Points System encourages players to utilize their balance, striking, and grappling skills to strategically defeat their opponent via striking points, disqualification, or good - old fashioned decapitation.
To play shootboxing successfully you need to understand these 3 heuristic rules:
1. Everything above the knees will DQ in the dojo.
- Only your feet, ankles, shins, and knees can touch the shootboxing dojo floor. Any body part touching outside the dojo will result in a traditional DQ loss.
2. You can only score by striking the Head, Lower Body and Thighs.
- No other body parts will award points when targeted.
3. Balance >> Striking >> Grappling.
- Focus on balance first and always. If you lose balance you will fall and die.
- Striking your opponent should be your first option. If you are winning on points you can adjust your strategy to that advantage.
- If you cannot out strike your opponent then your 2nd option is to shoot or clinch your way into a takedown or throw. Keep in mind that grapplers are almost always at a point disadvantage due to exposing their head to strikes. It should be understood that if you initiate a grapple you need to win with a takedown that DQs your opponent or you will most certainly lose by points.
Besides that, shootboxing includes features to make it the most fair, fun, and competitive MMA mod possible with-in the constraints of Tb's modmaker tool.
Decap System:
While the Neck awards no points (to prevent cheese points from clinching) it is still a valid target because it is the only joint that can be dismembered. Once Uke is decap'ed, the head will fall to the floor and DQ similar to aikido. You also get 100,000 points.
Ways to decap Uke in shootboxing:
- Punch the back of the neck really hard.
- Spike Uke headfirst into the floor
- Intercept Uke's takedown with a hard elbow or knee to the head.
Game Rule Features:
- (280 Matchframes / 5 Turn frames) * 15 s Reaction Time === 14 minute match maximum. This seems long but good players will space early and often because in competitive realism, less is more.
- Engage Rotation: 5 degree incline set on each tori so they start on a "forward lean". This makes it very easy for new MMA players to open with a frontstep, backstep, or sidestep with little risk of falling.
- Engage Distance: Both Tori's are 2 steps away from striking distance. This gets into the action faster.
Competitive Functions:
Though its not perfect, shootboxing's balanced points system and fast gameplay allows it to be used for Toribash's built in competitive features such as clan wars, betting servers, and knockout tournaments. Expect to see a lot more of these soon.
