Purpose of uniforms: Enforce equality and unity. Make everyone dress the same and hopefully they will realise they aren't so different, and that they should work together.

For 12 years I was in school wearing my uniform, detesting it the whole time. But actually now I realise that it was a good thing. I was friends with people I never ever would have been, and I think the uniform helped me to relate with them. I have seen some of those people since I left school, and I know they would still back me up.

I think that if we didn't have uniforms I would be wearing my shiz, and they would be wearing their shiz (eg my mate is a goth, and I would probably never talk to him if i met him for the first time and he was in full goth gear).

So yeah< I think it really does help.
@ivolt, i express my opinion, gotta problemo with that?

equality, makes sense, but the sects of people emo's/goth'/nerds/sport jocks etc... aren't actually as one, the gamers hang with the gamers, the fit sporty people are usu. in each others company etc..

and the rich and poor are not hidden under uniforms, you can pick who has the iphone, and who has the school jersey with holes on the elbow's, if anything wearing what we wanted to wear would form a lil more equality, because a student is more likely to buy clothing they they want rather than buy a neat uniform

and ties, not a big problem but on a hot day sweat builds around your neck and it's not comfortable...

also our uniform does not allow females to wear pants... the summer uniform is a dress and winter is a kilt. alot of girls i know never where dress's/skirts outside school and they too detest the uniform

those asian uniforms are quite low cut *droolz*
I type as I speak, with several commas and run on sentences, dont be hatin'.
Just letting you that picture is actually of a South Korean girl band, not school girls.

But anyway, "if anything wearing what we wanted to wear would form a lil more equality" is incredibly flawed logic. It's the equivalent of saying that individuality means equality.
was referring to equality in financial status

as in, if you happen to be poor, you wont spend money on a snazzy school uniform, you will spend what you have on mufti, whereas if you have money to spare you will buy both.

get me now?

How will that create equality? That will just mean that the poor kids will still have no money and bad clothing about which they will be ridiculed, and the rich kids will be able to flaunt their wealth.

If you're THAT poor, you wouldn't be able to raise a kid properly til schooling age.

Anyway, without uniform, you wouldn't be able to go to the school anyway.

This. Uniforms are a disciplinary measure taken by most schools to show that you belong to the school and to show conduct and unity.
[19:39] <Birdflu> I'm just sad that I can't give myself one
[19:39] <Birdflu> I'd have a great time
Im my school the regularly state that its because, they are probs of us and when were out and around were repressenting the school.
Here in Ukraine it's over 10 years now there's a project about school uniforms in our parliament, but since the government doesn't support the project, we end up with nothing.

Personally I don't see the difference on how that will raise or fall the education level, but I wouldn't want to go in the same clothes all the time, so I say no

On a more serious note, school uniforms make everyone an equal member of school society ( in theory ).
You cant seperate the poor from the rich just be their clothes, which is a good thing in my opinion.
Not really sure why people are against it, i'd loved to wear a uniform rather than what i got to wear back when i was in school :/

Asian girls ftw

But yeah, I've never had a liking for uniforms or dress codes. You should be able to express who you are at the one place where making an impression matters. Being a whore about it merely applies to who you are :|
