Honestly, both sides are being idiotic

The people who don't want it to be built are being ignorant, close-minded people who feel the need to blame all Muslims for what a small group of extremists did.

The people who want to build it are simply giving those people a reason to be angry. What they want to do isn't bad in itself, but they need to be aware of such people. I have nothing against there people at all, in fact, I support what they are doing, but still, it doesn't change the fact that they are provoking such reactions

In all honesty, people just need to grow up. The people who don't want it have a point, but its a close-minded one at that. Kind of a lose-lose situation here.

Yeah, they are both based in the god of the ancient jews, but they tend to have some pretty different beliefs, especially the fundamentalist ass hole American Christians who make up the staggering majority. To say that they are almost identical is a bit of a stretch I think. And yes, in time, and with generations having come and gone, most people don't really care about the injustice the old churches committed (the genocide and things)...but a lot of people also don't like Christianity for those, and other reasons.

Look at it this way, what if after all the child sexual abuse came to light some years ago, US catholic churches went around building multiple new churches very close to preschools/middle schools (the reason it is more than one church/school is to make up for the magnitude of 9/11 on the American psyche). Even if those churches had totally new priests who really didn't like to touch little kids, people would not be happy about it and it would just be a stupid, insensitive thing to do.

I think it is a mistake to say that anyone opposed to it is somehow closed minded and doesnt understand that there is a whole other, bigger side to Islam (granted it is still pretty much full of shit, but its a religion). People need time to come to terms with traumatic events, and to expect New Yorkers to be just dandy with this is unrealistic, the memorial isn't even finished yet.

Im not against this because I don't understand Islam, or because I am totally 100% pro America. If there is one thing I like to think I have studied quite a bit in my life, it is religion, and as for America...meh. I'm against this because its just uncooth, regardless of whether or not you think they are justified, people are going to be pissed about this...It's only natural that they would be. You can't force tolerance and understanding on people, they have to learn it for themselves.

I can see how this will anger allot of people, but not all people are thesame.
I think it is closeminded to get angry over this, and if you look at it positively it is a chance for people to actually encounter some people they have been calling terrorists for a long time now and realise they were largely misinformed. This "could" be something good. Although i do not expect enough americans to be tolerant enough.

and there are probably americans crazy enough to fligh their own little planes in there, or walk in there and start shooting the place up.
"I dissaprove of what you say, but i will defend to the death your right to say it"
Do they have the right to build there? Well yes, of course they do. Is building there a good idea? Of course not. A lot of Americans will see it as being spit upon and that won't lead anywhere good. Honestly if it does get built I give it a month at most before it gets destroyed/burnt down.

Wow, whoever came up with that idea has balls with their own planet sized gravity well.
I can see what they want to accomplish with this, and i support it wholeheartedly being the eternal optimist. however there is a helluva lot of strong feeling around that site and what happened there, so much so that i dont think that conservative america could ever accept this idea..... not going to end well i think.
ground zero should be respected and preserved as a(n inter)national park-God fucking DAMMIT.

DO NOT BUILD OVER SUCH SACRED GROUND!
LIVES WERE LOST THERE.

Let it be made an open air public park and memorial ground, not any form of dedicated religion, business, or otherwise "function" should be built there. Rather nothing should be BUILT at all.

This whole thing is entirely disrespectful.

Silly SuicideDo, lives have been lost everywhere, if you did that then you USA people would hardly have anywhere to build.
It is a bit silly to worship the grounds of your gov't greatest folly.

Besides that, please read even the goddamn OP's post, it isn't being build ON the site.

They have the same origin, so naturally the dogmas have many similarities.
However, modern Islam fuels more apparent violence than modern Christianity. I don't see many Christians scream "hallelujah" and resort to raw violence when someone dares to step on their religion. Latest gem:

Now look at this lovely gallery in the bible belt:

That was how long ago? What matters is now.

Oh, and did i say the mosque idea is disgusting and tasteless? Yeah.

I think my response is already well put:

Not that respect was ever necessary, just courteous.
