America and Football
America has 4 major sports: NFL, NHL, NBA and the MLB

But with their growing success in football (soccer), having topped their group that contained a usually dominant English side, will football (soccer) get a foothold in American culture and become one of the major sports?

Post you opinions, what you think will influence it's acceptance or rejection etc.

I personally think it will, especially now that USA are doing so well in the World Cup at the moment. I feel they are playing like a top side and not like a side that has Football as around the 5th highest played sport in the US. The USA has great potential to be a devastating football nation if it is fully embraced and accepted as a world game. The USA needs to stop kidding themselves and start playing real world class sports. The World Series has been the annual championship series of the highest level of professional baseball in the United States and Canada, doesn't it strike you a little silly to name your top level sporting event "World" when it only contains 2 countries? The majority of the world don't even play baseball and those that do rarely have it as a major sport. The same goes for NHL, although it is played more widely around the world, it is still a minor sport in comparison to Football. NFL is, once again, played only in America and Canada. NBA, another sport that is played in some countries around the world but is really only embraced in America.

The USA is dominated by sports that only they play and thus they can say that they are the best at these sports because NOBODY ELSE THINKS THEY ARE GOOD GAMES. Thus, being good at Football will act as a viable ego boost and is really the best way for the US to go in terms of sport.

Well I think that there are alot of teams who could easily beat USA, and losing will probably make some people fro the us lose alot of interest... although I have no factual evidence to base that on....

its just my opinion that USA wont win and alot of people from the usa will lose interest...

I don't think so. The league in the US is made of whack. Their attitude towards acquiring players is despicable, and the money spent in football is not in great quantity.

Besides, most of their promising players (more recently Freddy Adu) have gone to shit when playing in Europe. He was bought by Benfica (an actually stable side, European competitions-wise), had a bad first season, and has been on loan at several crap clubs recently. The only good players are the ones playing in England and Germany (plus Landon Donovan, who is a great player), and it's because they've been there for a while. Landon Donovan is a special case, basically because he must've worked REALLY hard to be as good as he is right now. No other player in the States even gets close to him.

As I said, the league is bullshit, the teams are unwilling to spend money, and no one in the US cares about football.
Nobody in the USA cares about the outcome of the World Cup.

Nobody will care about the next one if the USA wins either.

Soccer is the most boring sport ever, Americans like something more complicated than jogging.

You should know how to play or have actually played football before to know if it's boring or not. And you probably haven't seen a game.

Or you're trying to troll. Which is not fine. Don't try that, Mod.

Boring to me is nothing happening.

I know it takes a lot of energy and skill. I really don't want to watch people run 7 miles and score once or maybe twice in the entirety of a game.

I'm not trolling, I'm sure many others feel the same way I do.

Well, As an American I find it has become extremely more popular since the recent success. I used to never watch it, but now I do, same with many of my other American friends. That sorta proves it became more popular.
I am a terrible person :(
I don't really care about MLS all the soccor i watch is the world cup and i think that is how it will stay regardless of the outcome of the USA.
