Alot of internet shit is expensive and is alot of money to drop on it (photoshop) If they want more people to buy, maybe they should consider lowering some of their prices.

Photoshop isn't made for regular consumers - it's made for professionals who use it for work.

Just as much as I used £40+ screwdrivers for work because they're designed for the purpose. These days I happily use cheapo £5 ones because I don't need to worry about them surviving the abuse.

Pointless bitching about something you don't need, and certainly wouldn't buy.

Now, Is Photoshop pretty over priced? Yeah, a bit. But Pirating it has become a pain in the ass.

Pirating Photoshop is easy as pie... Or so I hear

Definitely easy than earning a couple of thousands of dollars.

Incorrect analogy is incorrect. Software doesn't work that way and you know it.

You wouldn't steal a £40 screwdriver just because you had a few screws to screw, you would borrow one from a friend if you had to. That doesn't work with software (anymore, back in the day you would do that, borrow a game, borrow some software, borrow whatever, but now days everything is digitally signed). The 'easy' option to use powerful software used by real-world processionals is just to pirate. This is equivalent to borrowing a neighbour's power tool; if you need to use it frequently or to make money (for work / start a business) then you buy one. This is obvious and it is kind of annoying to have to explain it, but of course you force my hand with this.

Much the same as Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, for $999 NZD?

K, how about "you wouldn't steal a plane to travel down the road" :<

However the point was people pirate things that they simply don't need, then use bullshit reasons like "I can't afford it".

That sounds like fun, and thats true. I don't really get why people pirate things other than the fact that they simply can. An easier way to describe that would be like doing something just cause its there.

Funnily enough this is actually a really important point, as long as they can be cracked then people will continue to pirate as long as there are no other incentives to purchasing a product legally. Things like Valve's TF2 updates are a good example of this, the continued support of their products means that people will miss out on more from pirating, minimizing losses. Wheras the alternative of this is trying to create an 'uncrackable' DRM, the chances of this even being possible are absurdly low and even if it is possible then the costs of producing such a thing would be enormous.

Morally speaking however, pirating and later purchasing something is perfectly fine, however when you get into pirating something and not buying it because you feel it isn't worth your money then things get complicated, seeing as one dollar is worth more to some than others and how much you value entertainment could prevent somebody from buying something, but is that person's opinion the baseline of value and should they not be paid because of it? Finally pirating something, thinking it is worth your money and then not paying for it is wrong without a doubt.
I actually started buying things when now I have that option available.
Me, the unholy, no-good, stinky pirate, now buy things over Steam.
What's the world coming to when ppl like me turning legit? >:]

Although, some habits die hard...
Also, torrented ''tryouts'' of some hyped games turned into just commercial shit-babble saved me from some cashy mistakes.
Now its time to retire my ''free'' version of the ArtRage3, and buy the full and complete stuff.
Like a boss! Finally.

Full transition will eventually come. Still in gray zone, for now.
I believe the piracy of music has furthered the careers of performers, but obviously negatively affected the careers of studio artists. I would not pay $20 for a CD of a band that I hadn't heard of. Therefore I wouldn't have discovered 80% of the music I listen to now without piracy and if any of my favourite artists (most are dead unfortunately) would tour, I would pay up to $300 to see them live. That is how piracy furthers performers careers. People who may have never heard them are exposed to their tunes at the click of a mouse and will amass followers to attend their concerts which is what true musicians should be doing. As an artist I'd much prefer my stuff to be pirated and miss out on a few album sales of which I get nearly nothing and then have a good crowd at a concert because they know my music and pay upwards of $50 to see me. That's a lot more than you would make selling albums without your name being out in the domain. Just my opinion.
