Having immortal life, isn't existing without a purpose. You can still serve God, and be with your loved ones, which is the true purpose of life.

There is only one thing I can agree with you in. Some of the things done in the name of God has been wrong, but that is the individual persons own fault, for not understanding the "guidelines". You should try watching the movie made by Mel Gibson. I don't remember the name but it's the life of Jesus. In a short version. It's a good movie, and I think you will understand why I am defending the christian side, a bit better.

The only reason Christianity is the most common religion is that it offers its followers the easy way out. Pray and everything is A okay. Murder? You can be forgiven, because the son of God who is also God and is immortal but sacrificed himself died for your sins.
