Secret Santa 2024
If we used 100% all the time, we could probably create matter from nothing.
the inner machinations of my mind are an enigma

Quite possibly, they say telepathy is made possible by people who use more of their brains than average people do

We would suffer strokes, or mental disorders of some sorts. Our body can't handle more than 50% or so.

So basically if you wanted to have a higher average in, lets say for example, algebra, you could tell your brain to be better at algebra?
I think that's a little far fetched but maybe possible. Well the actually controlling of your brain is involuntary, much like your heartbeat, so it(i would assume) would be fairly difficult to accomplish that.

If we think of our brain as a sports car it's easier to understand. The car is going 20 mph, and the entire engine is working, like our brain, but it is capable of much more.

We are simply not challenging our brains and making it work as hard as it can.

OFF-TOPIC(KINDA) -
telekineses isn't about brainpower at all. Actually it's focusing all of your energy into the tips of your fingers and being able to direct that energy to an object. It's also a lot more possible then people realize.

Ditto.

Why in what instance would you need to use the part of your brain that knows how to peel a banana and the part that you need to find square roots and the part that knows how to vomit, simultaneously? The portions of the brain that's coordinating everything can't take all that in. Brain bottlenecked!
For fucks sake, this is fake. The idea that we only use 10% of our brain is ridiculously stupid, why the fuck have such a big brain then? Imagine if you can only use one of your fingers at a time, pretty much just as stupid. Cut out 90% of your brain and see if you still work as well as when you had a full brain...

The entire time I was reading this thread that is what I was thinking.

Don't mess with that shit. Controlling your heart will scare the shit out of you.
Trust me.

It is a true evidence that our brain is a machine.
Lucid dreaming is being aware of being in a dream. While in that dream, you can control anything you want. You can fly, build stuff, summon people/objects, fight... etc. ANYTHING.
That is because our brain is working much better, having so much will power that it is able to do that stuff inside your dreams.
In dreams, your brain creates and procedes the dream simultaniously, and it does it so well you don't even know it's happening, that's how powerful it is.

Yup, this is probably the best way to sum it up. Or Déjà vu? Definition of Déjà vu is seeing something happen, when you've seen it before in a dream or something. But I heard somewhere that a better explanation for that feeling is that your brain process an event twice, at almost the same moment, to an extent at which we don't even know is happening. We feel that we've seen this already, when in fact, the brain has just processed 1 thing, 2 times at a very fast pace.

No shit, controlling your heart rate would be sketchy. Especially when your heart beats around 72 times a minute, that would be a bitch to keep track of.

You can't control your medulla, that part of the brain doesn't work like that.

You don't want it to be anything but automatic, either. Alcohol affecting your medula is what kills you if you drink too much.

@other people not understanding the brain: you use considerably more than 10% of it at a time. You are almost constantly using your medulla oblangata, cerebellum, and other parts associated with basic bodily functions and relaying information from the nervous system, your thalamus, hypothalamus, and hippocampus, for memories, every part of the neocortex required for sensory information, etc. etc. etc.

And finally @JayStar: your heartbeat speed is variable and also dependent on the person and his respiratory system. It is not in any locked on 72 or in that region. When you exercise it regularly skyrockets, up into the 200's for professional athletes.

@Acavado: who wouldn't want to peel a banana, vomit, and solve square root equations at the same time? Efficiency for a normal afternoon would be hugely increased. Actually, the part of your brain that controls, say, vomiting, is constantly working anyways, and it's the same part that controls movement too, since it includes the cerebellum.

Learning to browse the internet for this sort of information is hugely liberating.

Really, these debilitating conundrums were solved by google (well, they could've been found on google, a biology course is helpful too).
