To each his own,I'd say. But I do agree with you.I've played military shooters, but they're not the kind of games I enjoy most. The way I see it now, these games are popular because they are extremely accessible. It's all about the gameplay,no complicated storylines,no moral dillemas,no real goal of any kind(other than "kill the other bastard before he kills you"). Casual gamers are taking over(and they don't play games for the story), and the corporations want their money too. And,of course, there is the mob mentality. 20 million people buy something, the rest usually assume it's a quality product. Monkey see, monkey do. I have no problems with shooters in general, since it would be stupid of me to discard an entire genre based on a few similar games.
I've been a gamer since I was very little.Between the ages of 6 and ~15 gaming, reading, fixing problems and thinking occupied most of my time.I owe much of my actual education to videogames,so it pains me to see games becoming easy, repetitive and dumbed down in order to cater to the masses. There was a time where games didn't help you win,and you actually had to use your intelligence in order to have any chance of progressing. Friendly fire was on,your teammate's actions could actually hurt you.If you got shot, you stayed shot.If your teammate didn't cooperate, you both lost.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I seriously doubt a grown man's 8 bullet wounds would heal if he just stood still for 20 seconds. Not without a healing factor. If you're going to make a realistic game, make it f*ckin realistic. Otherwise, just don't make it.But come on,developers ... let me look down and see my body and legs.I really want to shoot myself in the foot. I really, really want to. I also want to know what kind of material is my enemy hiding behind, since it withstood a vast ammount of bullets without moving.I'm planning to use it as body armor in real life.I shall be invincible.
To me,video games are about experiencing another world(just like well-written books). They are like blank pages. You can do a great many things with pages. You can create a wonderful setting and atmosphere in them using words, you can paint a masterpiece on them, you can write a symphony on them, you can make paper planes or origami by using them. The only limit is your imagination and physical well-being. Abilities and skills can be attained. In short, I don't like realism in games much, seeing as how I'm a realist in real life. They provide a necessary escape to a better(albeit virtual) place,At least for a while.
P.S: Considering how f*cked up my reality is,I'm having a relatively good time recently.I even had some free time while I was out of town.Caught up on reading books and Final Fantasy VII.And since I run out of quality books really quickly, can you guys tell me some of your favorites ? Any genre not involving poorly written romance drama would do just fine
