Try to disconnect and then reconnect. Or do a connection test (not sure if that is possible on a Wii. I haven't been in the settings for it in a while.). And Wii Connect 24 is just for the message system I believe.

Yes there is a connection test and its pretty quick..but be careful if updating. If you have any emulators in your wii it could erase them. It happened to me once..
