This leads us into a quite fascinating topic; are we to become more openminded in the future, or are we heading towards a paranoid society globally following the example of England with its CCTV and US with its reforms after 9/11?

Looking at france we can see a few similarities to what happened in spain when Muslims converted the christian population to Islam, and then later vice versa. How the exact same thing happened in the Americas when Columbus arrived and how now society seems to accept the same thing happening in the middle east. (Mainly concerning about the Second Gulf War, and Hussein's fall.)

Insert; If you do not like the comparison between Gulf War II and what happened in the Americas, please consider the society they lived in and how their (the Aztecs) religious and/or political/ethical/moral/spiritual/we don't really know -beliefs justified human sacrifice, and then add their way of living, something that in my ears sounds much like the Caste in India.

What is it in our actions that promote what we say we strive for, a more fair society, if we do only accept our own opinion and not others, and looking at france where since two years ago women are not allowed to wear anything covering their faces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_..._face_covering) are we really becoming more openminded?

This thread mainly concerns technology so far, what about the Humanistic progress?

1) Read the thread. I've made these points earlier and provided appropriate references.

2) Wiki it.
Intelligence has been defined in many different ways including, but not limited to, abstract thought, understanding, self-awareness, communication, reasoning, learning, having emotional knowledge, retaining, planning, and problem solving.

3) Already have. Read the thread.

edit:
As for your humanistic side of the feature, regarding gender and equality, I personally subsribe to the theory that androgyny will be king.
Regarding 'openness', look at the world 60 years ago. Look at it now. We are far more 'open'. With the access to so much information nowadays, you have to be a very naive to be close-minded. I suspect that this trend will continue into the future, powered along primarily by the connectivity of the human race.

Of course, I could be wrong. There's no way to predict it - it's not grounded in any of the real sciences.

In 60 years, every sinlgle house will have solar panels on their roofs.
And yes, we must be a bit more eco-freindly to make a better planet in the future.
-----
And not only that, but hopefully, Earth will not be hotter in 60 years time.
If we change our 'Carbon Footprint' as a whole, the world won't be 6 degrees hotter(though I would enjoy a hot holiday in Scotland), and crop farming will be nearly impossible(This only applies for the USA. :/).
Hey, turn the heating off. And start a fire. But don't burn your house...

You do understand that so called super intelligence surpasses the intelligence of a human being, +1, for that remark, but in this sense this kind of AI lacks "self-consciousness or experience-driven perception", which develops into the problem of consciousness and subjectivity, and going back to the very core of your claim; smart, also includes self-awareness in most philosophical ways of seeing this abstraction. Now as far as I am concerned, this is what separates any AI development so far in history and I have yet to see supportive material for that claim.

But then again, he is speculative, and you are speculation about what he speculates in a thread of speculations; so I guess I'll have to let this one pass before I drag the discussion into the progress (but then again, f you show me a link to a computer being subjective, which as far as I have been searching does not exist...) of developing self-awarene // consciousness beings within virtual hosts.
