Textures not uploading? Try this!
Okay, so I had a problem where my textures refused to upload. It told me I had an invalid filetype, when I knew for a fact I didn't. Here are some ideas to help you through this tricky situation:
How to upload a texture:
1. Make sure you purchased the texture in the [URL=http://forum.toribash.com/tori_shop.php?cid=4]torishop![URL] I can't tell you how many people I have seen wondering how to upload textures and they havent even purchased the texture item.
2. Go
here (torishop then the textures tab) and click browse next to the file you want to upload, then click upload. Simple as that!
The texture upload didn't work. Now what?
1. Make sure everything is named correctly. Here is a list of what your textures should be named:
head
r_biceps
l_biceps
r_triceps (in the shop this will be called right arm)
l_triceps (in the shop this will be called left arm
l_hand
r_hand
l_thigh
r_thigh
l_leg
r_leg
l_foot
r_foot
trail_l_leg
trail_r_leg
trail_l_arm
trail_r_arm
2. Make sure all textures are merged to a single layer. If using a .tga file, make sure it is not RLE compressed. The following is a list of potential filetypes:
.BMP
.GIF
.JPG
.PNG
.TGA
.TIF
3. If you aren't sure if it is the correct filetype or not, try converting it to other filetypes and seeing if it works. But make sure you actually
convert it, and not just rename it with ".jpg" at the end! Do this by opening it in an image program, and saving it as a different filetype.
4. Try it out in the custom folder! Either put it in your custom folder or Uke's custom folder and go into single player. If it doesn't work there, there is something wrong. If it works, then your filetype is correct after all!
If you have an all black/white/transparent head:
1. To make the texture work you will need something other than black, white, and transparency. To get around this, just add a single pixel of color somewhere on the image. Don't worry, you won't even notice it. It is 1 out of 16,384 pixels on the texture.
If the texture worked in the custom folder:
1. Try using a different browser. Although it may seem strange, sometimes you just need to try a different browser for the upload to be successful.
2. Deactivate
all of your textures and try to re-upload them again.
3. If all of the above fails, send an email
with a descriptive subject line out to
[email protected] calmly and legibly explaining the situation and and requesting assistance. The administrators behind this email will almost certainly be willing to help you.
These are all the solution I know of, if you have another please post it here and I will add it to the list! I hope this thread helps people.
