Toribash
Doru:

Truth be told, the opener was a little bit mediocre I'm afraid.

It looked like you were going to do a nice kick-off, but decided not to and contracted and pushed off with your arm. This made it look rather unpleasent and your flow was diminished.

kick was cool, but the key to a great kick is great aim. A little bit higher and with a little more power I could see you turning it into a pretty boom.

Zeto pretty much covered everything after that. I want to see you get much better as well. I know you said that this was a "bumper" replay, but you have to try and put your all into everything that you do. It will get you to your goals faster and you'll learn some great things on the way there.

---

Solar Plexus:

Like Dcigs said, the run was rather stiff. You should try and relax more of your joints lke the elbows, ankles, abs, lumbar among other things to try and make the run look as natural as you can.

I feel like you lowered your arm for too long, because you didn't have enough time to spring back at uke and deliver a devastating kick. It was also rather messy to :s

If I were you I would kick earlier and possibly try and contract the hip and fiddle with the other body parts such as the other arm to try and get a good angle on the hit. From there the boom should be easy pickings and a 3 piece boom should be no problem.

You also need to work on your posing skills, a little brush-up on the basics if you know what I mean. Always try and kill as much excess momentum as you can and use your chest, lumbar, neck, abs, ankles, and whatever you think you need in order to get that perfect pose and balance.

also you didn't seem to post your replay. :3

I'll cnc that once you get around to posing it ;o

Thanks for the CnC. You have a point about always finishing what you start. Thanks for pointing out that kick-off. I might have been going for something more along those lines to begin with, but decided to do it with a hand stand because the chance presented itself. Definitely works better when I push against the ground with the leg first

Spinal Tap is the "master" version of that replay, Solar plexus was just an afterthought. It's really tricky to kick earlier because I have to time it with the steps obviously. Don't feel like working much on it anymore because I'm starting to see how unusable the run is myself. Running is one of those things you have to learn all over again for a while, and natural smoothness never was my forte to begin with. I'm pretty lousy with poses as well, so it's more of a learning process instead of a remembering one.

Anyways, here are some replays.
Spitroast: A shamelessly messy punch combo followed with a bit of a juggle before a decap. One of my better poses, or transitions to a pose, I think. I'm well aware of the somewhat awkward way my leg looks between Uke's (cf. the name), but when I accidentally jammed it up there I just couldn't resist the control it gave me over Uke. I meant to upload this in the earlier post, but apparently I forgot.
Intimidating Twerk: I wasn't able to get a better boom out of the kick in Solar Plexus, but here's this combo-kind of thing.
Sarissa: An edit of Doru with slightly more boombastic results. It's somehow a really tricky kick to aim, I've had a way easier time editing booms out of other people's starters lately. I can't seem to ghost the foot into Uke at all. This must be my first balanced pose. Sure my tori has his hand in his crotch, but he is standing.

Sptroast: Way too messy, plus some of the hits were kinda weak. A DM on the final kick would be cool, too. The transition of the pose was alright though I think that it was a little stiff to the end.

Intimidating Twerk: Run was really twtichy and your arms seemed too stiff. You were kinda losing your balance at the end too which made the flip/kick thingy look kinda half-hearted. The replay seems kinda unfinished, too.

Sarissa: Nice, simple and powerful boom. It was perfect except for that bit at the end right before you finished posing, I'm sure you could have gotten that amazing pose without needing the twitch.

Thanks for commenting on my thread even though it was on the second page!

We celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve in Finland, so I might be a bit busy getting ready today, might not be returning the favor by commenting every single thread today, but I'll be back on track Christmas Day when most of you guys are probably stuffing yourselves with turkey and/or ham.

DatSkip, just to be clear on the weak-looking hits in Spitroast, do you mean the way that I retract them quickly or the fact that I connect with the pec so far extended or both? I know I usually comment on these things myself, but after making the replay myself I fail to see the flaws because of the time I spent thinking I'm honing it to perfection.

Intimidating twerk is definitely unfinished, only really posted it to show Jingles I had tried to work on it. Not an excuse I suppose, but there it is. I wish someone would CnC Mohammad and Spinal Tap. I know the runs are blocky as hell, but they're both my favorite versions of those runs in terms of punishing uke.

Sarissa V2: I did some tweaking with the pose. Managed to get another pretty solid-looking stand without twitching, but not without moving from the original position substantially. I still prefer it, though.

The first two hits just seemed kinda meh. The way you aimed the hit kinda contributed to it too. I don't really like how the second punch kinda slid across Uke's chest either, it made it look less like a punch than it should have. Then again, as you're waging war against grab, I can't really comment too much on that. :P

I really liked the kick, but the way you land is kinda bulky. You should try relaxing some leg joints to make it look more smooth, fluid, natural, etc.

Also, I made a transition to the second kick since i liked how it turned out. Feel free to do smth about it.

Thanks for the CnC, guys, and for the edit, AssassinPro! I'm really bad at getting back to uke once I'm thrown far enough back.

DatSkip, my disposition against grabbing is something left over from 2008 or 2009 (whenever it was when I first was really active one summer), I guess. No-grab replays were all the rage then, and nubclapping was even more rampant among noobs. I never really learned to grab without it looking twisty and I actually do dislike the way the game mechanic works. It's just too firm a hold, but by now it's so much a part of the game that it can't be altered too much.

Anyways, here's another replay. I've noticed it seems to be the convention now to only CnC the replays in the latest post by the OP, but I'd be really thankful if someone could CnC the replays in the three first posts properly since they got thoroughly fucked by the server switch (if that's what the forums being offline was about).

Subtle: My entry to Reaper's Headless Whoreman V2 competition. That's why my Tori slips and severs his head in the beginning. He proceeds to fuck Uke's head up so bad he'll never walk again.

Oh man that opener had a lot of humor to it, hard to do in this game. I loved the sort of stumbling and falling thing you did. I feel it would've been funnier if you had landed flat and just laid on your stomach after the decap though. The decap of uke was good, and I liked how well you got back on your feet after being on the ground. The knee dm reeked of intended kick that you couldn't land though. I would've liked for you to make it look like you intended to knee all along. The second knee looked very nice though. That grab got REALLY messy as the replay went on though, I would have liked to see you regrab so you're not like hugging uke at the end. Ending was funny as hell too.

Pretty nice replay, really liked the humor you added to it. Just a bit messy is all.

Just like Larfen said, that was pretty funny. Loved how you fell on the ground and lost your head right away.
The sudden decap was nice. The two glute hits were a bit messy, probably because of you you placed the grab in a strange spot.

Funny stuff. I enjoyed watching that a lot.

Great to know I pulled it off. I wasn't sure if it looked like intentionally slamming my Tori's head on the floor. I tried to make it look like Tori's body twitching without a head, but I did it too fast. Looks a bit too much like getting the body into position for the kick in my opinion, too. laying flat on the stomach would look funnier, sure, but it'd be almost impossible to follow up from, especially fast like I had to with Uke falling on top of Tori.

I did try to go for a kick and very quickly realized I couldn't connect. If I remember correctly, i do sometimes get lazy and extend the knee before contracting it even when actually going for a knee, since by contracting the knee during the strike instead of just pushing a suitably contracted knee along I can use the momentum of the shin to my advantage. Definitely would've looked better if I simply didn't contract it before going for the knee.

As for the grab (what both of you said) , I didn't see it that way before, but it definitely is a bit too far around Uke. I rarely ever grab, and even when I do it's usually only in replays for events, so I don't get a lot of practice with the placement. Maybe I should broaden my horizons.

here's some more stuff. Event entries again, I haven't had much luck coming up with openers by myself. That tends to happen when I've been playing Toribash for a while.

If, theoretically, I were to grab: My entry to the last round of Concon's weekly challenge. So the opener isn't mine until frame 475. Not a horrible opener despite the fact that it's so close to Uke and both Tori's feet are off the ground, gives me a surprisingly good opening for a hook to the armpit. I really like the fact that I managed to micro two strikes simultaneously, the punch to Uke's legs standing on their own and the hook kick to his torso in my hand. At the time I didn't think this replay worthy of my main canon since coming back (hence the lack of running number in the name), but I've grown to like it.
Gone Fishin': My entry to the ongoing round of Concon's weekly challenge. Goddamn that spank on the butt took work to get to DM, but it was worth it.
