I once saw a presentation by a previously suicidal person that spoke about suicide and the mentality of it. The way he presented it, suicidal people don't see that they have any other choice than to do it. They're focus has shrunk to the point where any other options aren't conceivable anymore (according to this speech/presentation/lecture). So even if you save them, they'll probably go and try to do it again. That doesn't mean I'd leave them there though. A few hours of your life tops to try to save a life and give someone another chance to change their perspective. Seems worth it to me.
