Instead of a point by point rebuttal, here's the scenario:
1. The promo-team's objective is to host competitions and tournaments throughout the Toribash ecosystem, whether they be short events or longer series type events.
2. The promo-team always works as a unit. Yes we operate as a tight unit. From time to time, some members may be overly enthusiastic but the majority of the time, their role and focus is to serve the community and they take their position seriously.
3. I recruited Stups and Nightmare to the team. I was impressed with Stups both in terms of his attitude, and foresight for putting baby-tori together. Also he frames scenes well and he's improved a lot since his first edition. Having had no formal training, his attitude means he'll probably go quite far whether it be in this community and/or outside of it in real life.
4. As for your opinions on the competition we are running.
*yes we would like to promote both the artists as well as the wearers of textures.
*we are likely to promote them on the front page of the website, though we might pose them (if agreed)
* yes we have allowed people to include effects. we're likely to include a post for people to include both a screen of their tori as well as a possible effects-driven one.. if so desired.
*epic posing + effects of course = win... creativity should be rewarded. although, the majority of a person's score would come from the actual look of a tori when we /lp it.
5. It's easy to comment from the outside about this and that, say a system isn't effective in this and that way. Actually putting in the effort day and night is the difficult bit and I respect my team for that. If you have an issue with any one of my team take it up with me.
I appreciate your willingness to explain this out Gman. I understand that it's always easier to armchair quarterback events and critique them to hell. I also understand how the PromoTeam works. I'm not saying that it's not effective... just... unrefined in places I guess. Maybe what I'm trying to say is that I think the PromoTeam has the ABILITY to be better... but just isn't using it?
As sprooj pointed out, there are some serious rule issues this this contest. As I've stated a few places, the biggest being a community vote for best texture...
This will obviously be tilted towards the ones that are photoshopped and dolled up. Like you said, they = win. But the contest isn't about photoshoping, it's about the best textures and 'sexy' poses. I feel as if that's a little lost behind all of the photoshopping. It lacks focus, if you want to put it that way. So you have some people posting ingame shots without shaders and textures done in MSpaint, while others are showing off their 250k+ sets meshed with layer upon layer of photoshop filter and effect. If the contest were to be standardized, ie, post your best pose while wearing your textures... there is a 'control' (to borrow the chemisty term) to judge them by. It eliminates all feeling of unfairness amongst the participants... you will be judged purely on the contest's focus... Texture and pose. This would make it more enjoyable to participants and most likely get a few more to participate.
So yeah. That's why I've been questioning the judgement calls made by PromoTeam lately. I'm not trying to knock on Stupinator, don't get me wrong. I know what it's like to crawl up from the bottom. I havn't had formal education in art, design, drawing... whatever. Everything I know is from what I've learned by reading and trial and error. I understand you appreciation of his attitude and his enthusiasm for events like BabyTori. I agree with you that a go-get-it attitude like that will take a person far. However, (and Stup, take this with a grain of salt) I think that his work is still lacking the refinement and 'wisdom' (not the best word for it) that many expect as a standard from PromoTeam.
Anyway, thanks for hearing me out on this and giving a mature response instead of a "f
uck you" like everyone else did. I appreciate it.
