Actually i think their animations got a whole lot better with their last few releases. Oblivion and Fallout 3 had pretty sub-par animations, but i find them quite acceptable here in Skyrim. They could still do with some improvements, but at least it looks like you're actually hitting people rather than trying to brush dust off them.
