[REL] Blade and Shield v3 - Realism
I've altered the ----bladeandshieldv2fixed.tbm mod for more realism and more grueling fights.

Modifications include:

  • The blades and shields no longer instagib; this was the original issue which caused me to start altering the mod. Now, instead, they are both of the "steel" material and fracturing has been enabled with a reduced fracture threshold of 30. Realistically speaking, men on the field of battle with swords already dulled by combat would have little to no chance of dismembering even a lightly armored opponent with a single strike, but could quite likely cleave deep into their foe, shattering bone, slicing muscle and mangling joints, which is simulated as well as I could by the increased ability to fracture. Dismemberment is still quite possible, with a great deal of force and a little luck, making the feat quite satisfying and as comparatively devastating as it should be.
  • 3x gravity; Default Toribash gravity seemed to be almost precisely 1/3 real world gravity, so I've bumped it from [0 0 -9.81] up to [0 0 -29.43]. This prevents silly-looking moon-physics and enables good footwork and lunging attacks that don't send you flying.
  • Reversed handedness; The sword is now wielded in the right hand and the shield in the left, a vastly more traditional and common orientation.
  • Reduced wrist motion; The wrists now move only slightly more slowly, but are significantly weaker, meaning it requires less opposing force to hamper the wrist's movement. Additionally the right wrist has a reduced range of motion which more realistically matches how one could possibly grip a sword, and the left wrist cannot be moved on its own, only pushed beyond its natural movement range by outside forces.

The fights are now long, bloody, and based little, if at all, on luck.

I've included the unedited replay of a duel that a friend of mine and I had today using this mod, as a sort of showcase for it. History (the scoreboard) will say that MageFall was the victor that day but, having witnessed the duel for oneself, one would know who saw the better of the fight.
