Plagiarism 101
What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as your own.

Q: How does plagiarism apply as a rule in the Toribash community?

A: In the broadest sense, you are not allowed to use any art originally created and/or marketed within the Toribash community for your art pieces.

What do I do if I find a plagiarized piece of art?

The staff, be it the Art board moderators, the Market Squad or Super Moderators, put forth their best effort in keeping the community clean of plagiarism; however, we depend on Toribash users like you to file reports (with sufficient evidence back your claims) when you're aware of a case of plagiarism to ensure that the community art is well-kept and original.

Whenever you're filing a report, please make sure you have the following evidence to back up your claim:
  • Any unlisted reference pictures the artist may have used or may have stolen.
  • Any past Toribash art that the artist may have used as reference pictures or may have stolen.

In order to file a report, please click the button at the bottom-left of the post you're wanting to report.

Any report without the following evidence is essentially useless as we have no way of confirming whether or not the report is legitimate, and as such, the report may not be handled to the satisfaction of the reporter.
To elaborate,
  • You are not allowed to use your or another Toribash user's previous art pieces in your art. All pieces must be original, otherwise it's considered a form of plagiarism.
  • You are not allowed to sell Toribash textures that have been declared free for absolutely any reason; instances of this will be treated similarly to plagiarism and will result in a ban.
  • You are allowed to use images or art-pieces that are not copyrighted within your art pieces*, but you are required to add all reference pictures to your displays/sales in both the art board and the market board.
.......... Refer to the art rules and art/textures section of the market rules for each board's rules and policies.
*Do note that this does not mean you can blatantly sell images you find on Google as art; you may only incorporate them into your art pieces.
