You know in what job you get an even higher chance of death? Police, Military, Mercenary, Bounty Hunter, etc. However I don't see those jobs as exactly the most lucrative ones (maybe bounty hunter/mercenary if you catch someone like Osama bin laden...), wouldn't it make more sense for them, in a fair sense, to be paid more money simply because they take more risk, in your logic?
The thing is, in sports no one wants to intentionally kill each other, or at least, it's not directly supported by the rules of the corresponding sports (the deaths).

Isn't that a hypocrisy right there? I'm too lazy to type it out so I'll just put your argument in a premise/conclusion form;
Premise 1: Sports people make
too much money because what they do is not "necessary". (Implied; It's not fair that they make that much money)
Premise 2: They make the money fairly.
(Implied) Premise 3: Anyone who makes money fairly deserves to keep it.
Conclusion: You don't have the right to take money away from athletes.
At one time you imply that it's not fair that athletes make that much money - and yet at the same time you say they do it fairly. Perhaps you mean that athletes do work for the entertainment business, and thus are to be compensated/rewarded for their work? Please elaborate, your post is a bit too ambiguous on that argument and I could just be having one of my dumb moments right now by not understanding you.

But the question is how large the salary is - I don't think anyone here doubts that athletes deserve compensation for their work.
