Hydrotoxin's Debate 1: Atheism/Theism and philosophy
As you can see here, I am trying to start a series of weekly debate topics for people to... well, debate about!
This week's topic is one that gets a lot of attention on this forum already, but
is nevertheless an important one-
Atheist/Theist/Philosophy.
In other words- God or no God?
For your first post, simply list your age, region, religious/philosophical beliefs, and a brief explanation of said beliefs. You may also include your favored classical philosopher.
EXAMPLE:
RandomGuy1
Age- 47
Region- Conservativeville, USA
Beliefs- Pentecostal Christian
Why/Explanation of Beliefs- baby jeebus.
I'll start us off, shall I?
Age- 15
Region- Florida (Damn it's hot)
Philosophical/Religious Beliefs- Moral Nihilist
Explanation- Basically stated, Nihilism is the belief that there is no god and no meaning to life. Moral nihilism takes this further by stating that there are no moral absolutes, no good or evil. Society (and religion) has handed these concepts down to us as a tool for keeping society in check, which, as much as I hate to say it, is a necessity for living. When the last man on Earth dies as he stares into the universe, not one thing in that infinite and unknowable vacuum will shed a tear. That's nihilism in a nutshell.
Favorite Philosopher- Plato- he set down the groundwork for the social aspect of fascism, and his famous analogy of the world being a shadow formed the basis of nihilism in a sense (although Plato did not intend this).
Now it's your turn!
