Meats and processed foods increase chances of cancer?
So, according to this:
http://wewantorganicfood.com/2007/08...-cause-cancer/
and a few other things I've seen in the past few hours, this seems to be true.

So, do any of you guys have any thoughts on this? Gonna go vegan? Stick to whatever diet you have now? Feel free to elaborate.

Think of all of the preservatives that are in processed foods. They might not do instant damage, but they are mostly chemicals. Do you really want to absorb them into yourself?
I cant seem to get away from processed foods, It's bred into me. I do shop at the farmers market few times a a week though.
{HUNTERS}
It's not the processed foods that necessarily cause cancer. Of-course the pesticides and other questionable materials sprayed on the food are also liable. However, people aren't looking behind the scenes.
Who's providing those processed foods?

More than likely Monsanto.
Their food is cheaper because it is GMO foods. GMO's are Genetically Modified Organisms and usually grow faster and yield more than natural foods, thus reducing cost and that's the first thing that food processing companies look at.

The problem with this GMO produce is that they're messing around with DNA...Adding and mixing different organisms and species to get the desired product. THIS is what will truly cause cancer. Look into Monsanto and why they're known as the most evil company to see what's really in your food.

But yes, Processed foods are a no-no simply because of the unnatural ingredients used to create the product and the foods that help create "it". And because of that, they may cause cancer in due time.
Unfortunately there isn't all that much choice when it comes to choosing food a lot of the time.

Generally, the best you can do is to buy whole, organic foords (ie organic vegetables and fresh unprocessed meat) and cooking them yourself.

As for it causing cancer, "wewantorganicfood.com" might be slightly biased but if not that is pretty dodgy. You can always grow your own vegetables and the like but getting fresh meat might be harder....
nangs
The article doesn't provide enough scientific facts to back up it's claim. It seems that they're talking about some only specific brands of processed foods?Their isn't much to discuss except like talking from common knowledge etc...Though,I'll make some research about the genetically engineered food and processed food, and how it could cause cancer.
Well, there are a variety of other sources that say the same thing, feel free to use Google, that's what it's for.

My history teacher told me a story.
About 30 years ago, they had sort of like an apple dispenser, you stick a quarter in, you get an apple.

They added some sort of chemical, so the apples get some sort of shine added to them.
Eventually, a study was released on the 60 minute show where that chemical is said to give cancer.

4-5 months after that study was released, another study was released that said you had to eat a bathtub full of apples a day for 50 years to get cancer.

Another similar situation is people saying popcorn can give cancer.
You'd have to eat 10 (I think it was 10 at least) bags of popcorn a day for 50 years to get cancer.

The moral of these stories? It'll probably take some ridiculous amount of the food to give you any slight resemblance of cancer, and it's just another random paranoia, because face it, we love bad news more than we love good news.

OXYGEN CAUSES CANCER!

The only preventative cure for cancer is death or being an octopus. Don't ask about the second one. The fact of the matter is that it's unpredictable, nearly unavoidable, and is much more a result of how our bodies are constructed than the materials around us.

As such, oxygen causes cancer. If you don't want to get cancer, stop breathing. It'll work, but the cure might be worse than the disease at that point.

Sarcasm and cynicism doesn't make your argument any better. I'm not saying that this indicates a permanent disappearance of cancer if we stop eating processed foods and meats, I'm saying it's a good preventative measure. It lowers the chances of you getting cancer exponentially, and there are several tests that have been done to at least help prove that.

Yes, living technically causes cancer(as only living organisms (excluding octopi, apparently) can get cancer), but that was completely unrelated. Let's say, for example, your current diet/lifestyle sets you at a 10% chance of cancer at some point in your life. However, if you were to remove certain negative elements, i.e. meats and processed foods, it'd go down to 0.75%. Yes, either way there's a chance of cancer, but it's about decreasing those odds, not eliminating them entirely.
