Internet blacklist bill could be passed TODAY
The US entertainment industry has proposed an internet blacklist bill that could effectively DESTROY sites like youtube, twitter, blogger, facebook, and other such sites.

ANYTHING that has copyrighted music or videos on it, could make the person responsible of uploading the content SENT TO JAIL, FINED, or they can have there internet access REVOKED.

That means, your youtube video with music on it, yea, that music your using is probably copyrighted and so is that game footage your showing, looks like your fucked.

This bill has been set up for quick passage TODAY.

PLEASE help join the fight for internet neutrality and freedom, and sign this petition so that the internet as we know will not be tampered with.

Here we may discuss this bill, if it does happen, if not then it is a huge victory for all of us and I will close this thread upon hearing the results.

Here is a copy of the bill - This bill is subject to change at any time, I'll keep you informed on what they do.

[edit] I just got an email from the Demand progress team,

"Some big news:

We told you that grassroots censorship opponents aren't going to get to testify at tomorrow's hearing -- but we made sure your voices were heard anyway:

We just delivered more than 500k petition signatures in opposition to Internet censorship to Congress -- and we did it standing alongside Congressmembers Zoe Lofgren and Darrell Issa, both of whom are strong Blacklist Bill opponents."

This is good news, we will see today how this pans out.

Stay strong!

It won't pass. If it harms youtube in any way, it harms google. If it harms google, then there'll be a huge fucking panic on wall street, google will drop, and the dow will be severely lowered, maybe upwards of ~800 points. The entertainment industry can go suck a dick, the guys who own google/zuckerberg/whoever invented twitter are much richer then they are, and money buys voice, so yeah.
Hoss.
I wouldn't put it past the US entertainment industry to effectively do such a thing considering how extremist they can be and how stupid people can be.

We need every person we can get to sign this petition.
What about porn sites terty, I'm assuming those would be effed too?

but srs yeah the US can be utterly retarded sometimes, but this would go off the deep end. like mentally insane. we're not there yet, US!
bananananananananaananananananannanaa delicious
Learn your copyright law.

Regarding the bill:
See page 3, lines 1-23 for the definition of "Internet site dedicated to infringing activities"

Here's a famous case about betamax tapes concerning copyright infringement.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Co...y_Studios,_Inc.
In short, Universal complained that Betamax and VCRs were being used to copy protected material. However, the court rules against them, as VCRs aren't solely intended to copy material, but were being used to watch aired shows at a later date.

Although MUCH has changed since then, I highly doubt YouTube will come crashing down. Not only do people share home videos with family members, but also all of the amateur reporting regarding the arab spring of atrocities against innocent people. It would be hard to say that the majority of YouTube's intent is to "facilitate the public performance of copyrighted works". However, a site for people to share "let's play"s would possibly fall under that category. Also, a site could be defined as "youtube.com" or "youtube.com/user/letsplaycollection".

Fair use. It's a fine line.
I'd rather be against it, and better to let your representative know that their paycheck is on the chopping block because you feel that this bill takes away your right to fair use.
BTW, using a line like that ^ will probably be more effective than "I MAD!".

Even if it passes it will promptly and ironically be sued to the ground by the organizations like the EFF and the ACLU, whereupon it will be ruled unconstitutional and rescinded.

It's still disgusting that lobbyists can so easily overrule the public, though. It says some bad things about our system.

Hey look more than two lines.
New update, More than 700k anti-censorship contacts have been delivered to Congress so far this week, as the Blacklsit Bill gets heard in committee.

Let's hope for the best
Oh god this is horrible.
All the "Let's Play (Insert game name here)"s will come crashing down if this gets passed, not to mention all the game tuts.
However, I wouldn't put it past us. The government has been doing some effed up stuff lately

That's incredible, I hope all these petitions end up meaning something.
<Crooked> I'd say spartan, cause if he's tough enough to digest ungodly amounts of alcohol he clearly has the best body
