Internet freedom[Breath of fresh air]
To what extent do you think people should be free to share/exchange information on the internet?

I am personally very liberal, as people should have the right to do anything as long as they are not directly damaging anyone's pockets(phishing paypal accounts, keyloggers, etc).

I am looking to start a discussion about the influence of corporations and laws on the internet, as the freedom we have taken for granted is currently being threatened. Do you think the internet needs more regulations? Less? Please provide an explanation for what you think and why you think it.
Hoss.
There are two factors that are very important to consider.
1. Is it technically possible to regulate the internet?
2. Is it diplomatically possible? I mean, countries like vietnam have hardly any laws regarding computer technology, regulating the the content of the internet would probably result in many sites moving their servers to such countries. It is easy as balls to bypass a block or something.

I do think that piracy is a great problem.
However, I don't think the effects of a regulation would be worth it because the information that would also get censored are very important to the freedom the internet represents these days.
Wikileaks is a good example. I personally only somewhat follow their releases, but the information they tend to publish put many authorities under a lot of pressure.
That is a good thing because that kind of pressure leads to improvement.
How are you?
Everything
I think everything should be allowed, because it's life. In life, muggings happen, robberys happen, shit happens. It's not really possible to control these occurances, and it's not really possible to control them on the internet. To be honest, I think as long as the corporations are fine, leave shit alone. I hate SOPA and ACTA, they suppress and kill things which are, in honesty, just communities of people sharing stuff. I torrent at numerous private trackers, and they are really, at the end of the day just communities, chilling and chatting in IRC is one of the best things IMO, it makes it worth going on the internet in the first place.

So yeah, I think no limit should be placed upon what we can share.
Last time I checked robbery was illegal and prisons were filled with loads of people who commited that crime. People who use torrents also tend to get caught.
When you google cases where people are fined for abusing torrents and the like you will come up with suprisingly many results.

A community of people who share software and other data illegally is not just a community of people who shares interesting stuff like news and ideas, it's a community of people that essentially deprive others of their income and sometimes they cause even more damage. example
You could call evolution on that, sooner or later either the authorities or the developers will come up with a solution that will put an end to it.

As of now they release many games exclusively for consoles, which, as I heard, are somewhat harder to crack.

By the way, if everything would be allowed life would be somewhat unpleasant for you.
There is a reason for institutions like cartel offices to be in place. They make sure don't have to pay too high prices for your shitty computers or work your ass off for a ridiculous low income.
How are you?
What Redundant said in his first post is right.

You could make any website with content that is illegal in most country's,
And just move it to a country where it IS allowed.

Your website might get blocked for users from country's that have regulations about the content your showing. But it is pretty hard to detect that and most likely wont happen.

I think you should be able to alot of things on the internet except for hacking bank accounts and In-Real profitable profiles.
Yeah, I don't think some things should be allowed but for the most part put what you want on the Internet. It's you not anyone else and you can put anything you want on it. That's the great thing about the U.S.A but the bad thing about us is our president. Look at Africa, they are run by blacks and I'm just saying btw. I love black people don't get me wrong but they can't run a country. Some whites do just as bad a job so there is no room to talk on either side. But back on subject, the Internet is for your enjoyment do what you want, how you want to do it. It's your problem and no one else's.

So you're saying that Europe didn't fuck Africa up beyond the point of repair, and its simply the fact that black people can't lead countries that's causing all the problems over there? If so, you are delusional. Europe is solely responsible for all the problems in Africa, and thinking otherwise is just uneducated.

Your racism is sticking out like a sore thumb.

You blame Obama for the problems of America because of the fact he is black? Blame bush, bush, and reagan for fucking up America beyond repair and then leaving it to the black guy, who is being blamed for it by racists like you.

I do agree with your opinion on internet freedom though.

Depriving others of their income will happen anyway, and the amount of people in these communties is ~500-100k, not that many when you think of the scale of the world. They will still make a profit, a huge huge profit, made marginally smaller by torrenters. I buy the things I like - games, tv boxsets, and I also have rips of all of them as well, obtained online. Those people you see on Google are fucking idiots, I tunnel through multiple servers and use boxes to download from, good luck tracing my connections. Games on consoles are easy to crack, I know people who crack them.

You seem a little biased to be honest mate.
If you'd look at my first post, I am rather neutral.
I proved with a source that piracy does cause damage so you can't claim that “they” whoever “they” may be do not still make huge huge profit no matter what.

Also, how not to be biased in a debate? You have an opinion and stand by it until it gets proven wrong.

Valid point, I hadn't read your first post at the time of writing. That is not the kind of piracy that I am talking about. IE: the Scene would have just released version 1.0 of that game, and a while after each update comes out the next update. They don't do autoupdating shit, that's not how the groups work. Piracy isn't just one big banner, it's a lot of little sections that form it. In any given thing, some of them do shit that the others don't like, I for one don't like that shit, against my morals. I know many others who would agree with me, so we're not all bad.
