The Shooting Of Trayvon Martin
"The fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman took place on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida. Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old African American male who was unarmed; George Zimmerman is a 28-year-old Hispanic American, who at the time of the shooting was a community watch coordinator.

Martin was walking back to a home in a gated community where he was staying when Zimmerman began following him, while contacting the Sanford Police Department to report Martin's behavior as suspicious. Soon afterward, there was a confrontation that ended with Zimmerman fatally shooting Martin once in the chest at close range.

When police arrived on the scene, Zimmerman claimed he shot Martin in self-defense because Martin had attacked him. According to police, Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose and had a wound on the back of his head. Responding officers handcuffed Zimmerman, took him into custody, and transported him to the Sanford Police Department where he was questioned by investigators. Zimmerman was eventually released without being charged because police said they did not find evidence to contradict his assertion of self-defense. The lead homicide investigator reportedly said he did not believe it was self-defense and he wanted to charge Zimmerman with manslaughter, but the state attorney's office said there was insufficient evidence for a conviction.

The circumstances around Martin's death, including Florida's Stand Your Ground law, received national and international attention. Allegations of racial motivations and police misconduct triggered public demands for Zimmerman's arrest.

On April 11, 2012, State Attorney Angela Corey announced that she had filed charges" for murder in the second degree against Zimmerman and that he had surrendered to authorities in Florida and had been arrested."

There is a picture I found.

A African American called Travyon Martin was walking home and a person called George Zimmerman shot him to death because he was black. George claimed that Travyon had hit him in the nose.
What's your thoughts on this?
[03:39] <idabosswiz> can't you just set up a pass for ddos?
I honestly don't think it's race in this situation. I think it's Zimmerman's frustration with past involvement with the authorities. As we know he has made some outrageous calls to the FPD about things that really don't need Law Enforcement to get in the middle of. So he took his Vigilantism too far and murdered an innocent 17 African-American boy to get back at them. Just how I see it.

My thoughts are you are a sheep that will buy into anything msnbc throws at you. This was not a hate crime, nor did race have anything to do with it. At the current time, it appears as though Martin was somewhere he didn't belong (ie, a gated neighborhood), Zimmerman called the cops. Martin goes out of sight, Zimmerman follows. Mind you, not chase like you'd hear anywhere else. From the current evidence, Martin hid, Zimmerman walked by and was jumped. After being attacked, he shot out of self defense. None of what I say can be concrete, because there hasn't been a trial. Nothing ANYONE says has any meaning until we receive the evidence.

I had something well typed out. Then I accidentally clicked something causing to page to change.

I'm not wasting any more time. So here's what I stand by.

Zimmerman needs to be locked up for a respective amount of time. It was his fault. His lies about what Trayvon was doing are irrational. Someone died. The Stand Your Ground Law needs to be amended or repealed.
Educate Yourself.

The real problem with this whole case is the Stand Your Ground law in Florida. According to that law, Zimmerman did nothing wrong, therefore he was not charged with anything.

It wasn't because he had big-time connections to escape jail time.
It wasn't because Treyvon was black.

However, the media loves to create a mess out of things. They placed emphasis on the fact that Treyvon was a black 17 year old teen wearing a hoodie (while showing pictures of Trevyon when he was 12) and that was shot by a light skinned male who recieved no consequences for the crime. They don't state that the Stand Your Ground Law is flawed and allows murderers to roam free. Not necessarily a racist crime now is it?

And then you have the black community, who cry racism at any situation where a black person is a victim to a light skinned person. Lets not forget about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson who try their hardest to create an uproar out of every situation they deem racist.

Its ridiculous the amount of hate that this case has received all because people think race was involved. Especially when all details about what even happened during the night of the incident HAS NOT BEEN UNCOVERED YET. Even if what Zimmerman has to say is the truth, due to all of the negative attention brought to him by the media, everyone will automatically label it as a lie just because "hes racist."

Im not saying Zimmerman was right in what he did. Im not even saying he is innocent.

All I want people to get from this post is that you shouldn't make assumptions until all of the evidence is revealed.

It's all of these assumptions, fueled by the race-baiting media, that has endangered the life of a single man. He's receiving death threats off of ASSUMPTIONS for god's sake. Isn't that crazy!?! Well it sounds fucking crazy to me. The world we live in...

He was charged with 2nd degree murder a while ago, actually.

Ah, but you see, the Stand Your Ground Law IS their main target. They know they can't get rid of gun ownership in he US so this is their main priority right now. There's no point in attacking it from the start when you can just get people to follow your cause through appeal to emotion in a case where we still don't know all of the evidence. Later on you can say that Trayvon died because of this law, and people will go with it just because they're so emotionally involved with the case. It's much easier this way.

It just goes to show how powerful US media really is when it comes to shaping people's opinions.

Because nowadays racism is hyped to be THE worst crime you can commit, nevermind that the definition was so skewed no one even knows what it means anymore. SEE: Bobby Fischer. A brilliant man that was completely dismissed by the media and others simply because he were 'racist'.

Not only one man: http://rt.com/usa/news/trayvon-man-white-watts-350/, and I doubt that this is a unique case.

Also,
For the people saying that the police told Zimmerman to stop following Trayvon:
That isn't true. He was told that it is unnecessary.

I'm starting to think you don't know what's wrong with what Zimmerman did. You're one of those guys who say, "THE MEDIA IS LYING TO US! THEY CAN'T BE TRUSTED!" NBC did cut out part of the tape where the police officer asked what race he was, but that was the only problem. He still made racial remarks so NO, it still was likely a racial bias too.
Here are the problems.
  1. Zimmerman shot a kid who was talking on his cellular phone with his girlfriend while eating skittles
  2. Zimmerman was told not to get out of his vehicle and replied "Okay" signifying that he understood.
  3. Zimmerman got out of his vehicle (LOL)
  4. Zimmerman said that he's not going to let this one get away signifying that he had ill intentions
  5. If he was so scared for his life, why would he pursue a 'criminal' so casually? Normally criminals travel in groups; his buddy could have been hiding somewhere and Zimmerman could have been killed.
  6. He's a big man, you really think a somewhat scrawny 17 year old could beat the crap out of Zimmerman?
  7. Zimmerman claim that he was beaten up and shot in self-defense
  8. In all the video tapes of Zimmerman, there were no physical signs of an intense struggle (No bloody shirt, no bloody nose, no bruises, and when the police officers brought him in, he got out of the car on his own with his hands tied behind his back! Normally, the police officer helps you out of the car if you are hurt)
  9. Someone died

Bro, the black community didn't cry racism. Every community did! You're sounding a little biased by making such radical claims dude.

Guess what, with the Casey Anthony case, a white person was killed and there was a huge hype.

The media is there to bring light on issues that need to be addressed. If you had a son that shot by a neighborhood watchman claiming defense and found that the watchman got away with it. Wouldn't you like to know how that happened? The media brings you all the facts you need to know in order to make your decision. Of course you need to do a little research of your own as well, but that is what they are for.

He wasn't charged before since the Stand Your Ground Law justified his actions due to there being no witnesses to challenge his self defense claim. He is most likely being charged now due to a public outcry.

I severely doubt that the main goal of the media was to challenge the SYG law from the get go. If that was the case, they would have let the public know what the SYG law actually was when they first reported this case. They would have also reported on the other, more radical, cases where SYG was used.

Like the time a man chased down a burglar for more than a block, only to stab him multiple times in the back and was let free. Source

i lold at that. It's a self defense law pretty much. It states that if you know they're going to do something bad to you, you have this law to support you so you can act upon it (kind of bad description). But he knew if he didn't shoot trayvon then he wouldve suffered serious injury or even death. I don't see how this law is unconstitutional, trayvon lost his right to life after he attacked zimmerman. This is a no brainer

Im assuming you meant to say "You took a lollipop and made it look like shit on a stick." Sounds more relevant to me.
What I said about SYG letting murderers roam free was an exaggeration but it does give people who commit murders something to fall back on. And I actually don't think the SYG law (The Right to Murder Law) is out of place in this case. It actually benefits Zimmerman in the long run if he actually felt his life was in danger.

This is the other side to the case:

Why do Zimmerman's actions automatically have to be wrong? Yes, a 17 year old teenager was killed but what if Zimmerman's life was actually in danger? Was he wrong for protecting himself? Should he have let the altercation continue and hope that he would live to see the next day?
Just because Zimmerman chose to follow and confront Trayvon Martin doesn't automatically give Travyon the right to beat the shit out of Zimmerman.

The media is lying to us! They cannot be trusted!

It shouldn't be news to you that the media will always attempt to make the public view certain events in a certain way.

What makes you think that everything that has been presented so far by the mainstream media about the Trayvon Martin case is unbiased?

Even the initial picture of Travyon Martin was used to provoke public speculation as to how innocent he was. Even though it was a picture of him from when he was 12 years old.
And not to mention the old Zimmerman picture from a few years back (I forget how many years) where he was wearing an orange polo shirt that looked a lot like a prison jumpsuit.

Did you not hear about the altercation that took place which resulted in the shooting of Trayvon Martin? I doubt that during the scuffle that took place that Trayvon was on his cellphone and eating skittles at the same time.
  2. Zimmerman was told not to get out of his vehicle and replied "Okay" signifying that he understood. Okay
  3. Zimmerman got out of his vehicle (LOL) I'm glad this is funny to you ._.
  4. Zimmerman said that he's not going to let this one get away signifying that he had ill intentions
Or maybe he wanted to prevent another burglary? Like the last one he helped prevented? Source

He was scared for his life before the altercation took place? What? And also, you said that he didn't want the 'criminal' to get away.
  6. He's a big man, you really think a somewhat scrawny 17 year old could beat the crap out of Zimmerman?
I can't say that I know what happened, but I am not ruling out that possibility just because it seems unlikely. It is a possible scenario that could have taken place.
  7. Zimmerman claim that he was beaten up and shot in self-defense Yup
  8. Well unless there was a video of Zimmerman at the scene of the incident shortly after it happened, you won't be able to see much. *Allegedly* Paramedics tended to Zimmerman before he was brought in for questioning (Source). Also, new enhanced versions of those tapes have already been released. They show Zimmerman in high definition along with a scar on the back of his head (Source).
  9. Someone died
    We all know this.

May not be the case but this is how I feel. Being around individuals who have the mindset that "Slavery still exists today" annoys me. My bad if I offended you.

OFC I would want to know what happened to my son. Sure, at first, I might wish for the man who murdered my son to die a horrible death. But after that phase of Anger passes, I would just want justice to be served. I would want things to be set right. If the murderer did what he did in a true act of self defense, I would be mad yes, but as long as the murderer feels regret for what he has done and sincerely apologizes, I would be open to considering to forgive him.

Trayvon's Mother wants answers. Maybe punishment for his actions but more importantly, she wants to see if Zimmerman truly regrets shooting Trayvon Martin. At least, that is what I am getting from this statement.

The media gives you facts, yes. Not all of them mind you. And with the facts that they do give, they present them in a way that reflects their view on the event. That makes the media what? You guessed it. Biased. The most you can do is look at the event from different sources, look at the evidence presented, and then come to your own conclusions. And also realize that your conclusion is not "The Truth." It is merely your own view on the matter which is what? Your opinion.
