I completely agree with all your statements.
skorban: That is true. However, as MintCat said, you shouldn't enter the internet without being aware of these precautions.
Skizzify: Ones that you should ignore as follows:
Your mum jokes
Insults of being bad at a particular thing
Jokes about autism. Period.
However, I almost ignore all insults now (can't say that 2 years ago). If you make a joke about my race, the fact I'm fat, etc. I'll just respond with a laugh/another insult. If I'm in a heated argument, and someone mentions that, I'll just ignore it and continue on with the topic, unless that is, the argument is about my race/the fact I'm fat/etc.
Demon: There is a big difference indeed. One man's insult could hurt you, but not another man.
Triton:
In my opinion, insults shouldn't matter unless they are directly stated in person
I also agree with that. It's the internet. There's no way to show your tone unless you add something stupid behind your sentence mentioning your tone. Like *calm* or *sarcastic*.
doesn't really matter anyway since there's nothing either of you can do to one another behind the screens of your computers.
And that's why people resort to the report threat.
MintCat: I guess I should look at it at the other perspective. What if you were the one that was traumatised or with anxiety. But the fact that they dare enter the internet domain without the precautions is at their fault.
Also, about the report threat. Ditto.
I'll give a scenario I had to deal with today unfortunately.
So I
had a friend who made videos about LoL and some other games. He also made these montages which were cringe worthy af (you'll probably rock on your chairs because of how cringe worthy they are). I showed him a LoL montage by Sweeni (you probably know him) and mentioned the fact that the first 10 seconds were better than all of his videos combined. And so he responded with a block and a last message saying "Fuck You".
What do you think about this?
